1. 개요

Buzz cut

한국어론 반삭이라고 하는데, '반 삭발(半 + 삭발)의 줄임말이다. 머리카락을 12mm 미만의 일정한 길이로 조금씩만 남겨놓고 다 잘라내는 것을 의미한다. 12mm를 넘어가면 스포츠컷과 비슷하기 때문에 반삭으로 인정받기 어렵다. 대개 이런 스타일을 하고다니는 사람들은 어린 시절에 까까머리, 밤송이, 빡빡이, 군인, 스님, 간디 등의 별명이 붙었을 가능성이 높다. 다른 헤어스타일에 비해 깎는 방법이 쉽기 때문에 다른 이의 도움으로, 혹은 혼자 이발기로 간단히 밀어버려서 깎는 경우도 있다. 여자들이 앞머리를 기르다 보면 머리 길이가 어중간한 거지존이 생겨서 다시 잘라버리곤 하는데, 반삭을 했다가 다시 머리를 기르려고 할 때도 비슷한 현상이 생긴다.

한국에서는 주로 입대를 앞둔 청년들 또는 복무 중인 해병대들이 많이 한다. 정확히는 반삭의 파생 형태인 돌격머리(하이 앤 타이트이다.)이며 육 공군은 반삭보다 스포츠컷을 자주 하고 해군은 타 군대 규정보다 길어 좀 짧은 일반인 머리에 가깝다. 이유는 해군 특성상 바다에 빠졌을 때 머리카락을 잡아서 바로 건져올릴 수 있게 하기 위함이다. 사실 12~15mm 이하의 완전한 반삭은 해병대나 훈련병 시기가 아니면 보기 힘든데, 두발 규정이 엄격한 육군과 공군은 자대배치 이후에는 스포츠컷이기 때문이다. 물론 군대가 언제나 그렇듯이 부대에 따라, 지휘관 성향에 따라 다르다.

얼굴에 땀이 많이 나서 여름에 시원하라고 혹은 얼굴 형태랑 맞추거나 스타일을 위해서 일부러 반삭을 하는 경우도 많다.[1] 2010년대 이전 두발규제가 심한 남자중학교ㆍ남자고등학교에서 자주 볼 수 있던 헤어스타일이기도 했다. 1982년 중고교 두발자유화 조치 이전에는[2] 대부분의 남학교에서의 두발규정은 1cm 내외 반삭이었고, 널럴해봐야 대부분은 스포츠였으며,[3] 두발자유화 조치 이후로도 다수의 학교에서 형식상의 두발길이 규정만 완화하고 스포츠머리와 상고머리를 강제했기 때문에 규정에 걸리지 않으려고 일부러 반삭머리를 하기도 했다. 물론 반삭머리를 해도 교사와 선도부 대원한테 반항하냐면서 다시 쳐맞는 황당한 경험담도 이 당시에 비교적 흔한 일이었다. 이발비는 학생이 자비로 부담해야 했던 것은 덤이었다. 이 문제는 1982년 이전에는 더욱 심각한 문제였는데, 문교부와 학교에서는 사치풍조 차단을 내세우면서도 정작 이발소에는 반드시 가야했기 때문에 오히려 문교부와 학교에서 강제하는 것이 사치 조장에 왜놈들이 했던 것을 여전히 강제하는 것이라는 비아냥이 많았다.

탈모 및 악성 곱슬머리의 대응책 혹은 그냥 관리가 편해서 반삭을 좋아하지만 주변의 눈치가 신경쓰여서 못 하는 경우에는 미용실에 가서 앞머리가 일자로 유지되는 한도 내에서 투블럭 바가지머리를 최대한 짧게 잘라달라고 하면 어느 정도 단정함과 편리함을 모두 잡을 수 있다. 특히 M자 탈모를 커버하는 데 효과적이다. 실제로 사회생활에서는 2 대 8이나 올백머리 가르마로 이마를 드러낼 것을 요구하는데, 굳이 그렇게 넘기지 않고 다 내리더라도 앞머리 길이가 최대한 짧다면 거의 용인된다.

서양 백인(캅카스)계 남성들에게는 매우 흔한 헤어스타일인데, 특히 M자 이마와 결합할 경우 독특한 포스를 풍긴다. Grand Theft Auto IV의 니코머리.서양 백인 남성들 중에서도 주로 슬라브계 남성들이 선호하는 머리이다.인스타그램이나 틱톡에 슬라브 관련 정보를 검색하면 버즈컷이 가끔씩 연관 검색어로 뜨기도 한다.

일본에서는 마루가리(丸刈り), 마루보즈(丸坊主) 혹은 그냥 스님머리란 뜻의 보즈(坊主)로 부르며 일반적으로 얼만큼 짧게 미는가를 밀리미터 단위보다는 주로 푼(分), 리(厘)를 사용하는데 한국에서도 쓰이는 이부가리(니부가리, 二分刈り)도 여기서 유래한 말이다. 참고로 스킨헤드에 가깝게 짧게 밀면 고린가리(五厘刈り)라고 부르는데, 이게 오륜(五輪)과 발음이 똑같아서 말장난으로 쓰이곤 한다. 2000년대 이후로 샤기컷 장발을 선호하는 게 대세인 현대 일본인지라 이미지는 그닥 좋지 않으며 야쿠자 같다고 싫어하는 반응도 볼 수 있다. 물론 2000년대 이전의 중고등학교에서는 하는 곳이 많이 있었다. 다만 얼굴형이 동안이라면 오히려 긍정적인 반응을 볼 수도 있고, 일본군 잔재 때문인지 젊은 세대와 다르게 장노년층들은 좋게 본다. 가끔 초등학생 이하 어린 애들이 동자승 마냥 깎고 다니면 '마루코메쿤(マルコメくん)'이라고 부를 때가 있는데, 동명의 된장 제조회사가 2000년대 초까지 내보냈던 CF 컨셉에서 유래한 것이다.

영국과 같은 일부 국가에서는 대머리를 반삭 문신으로 가리기도 한다고 한다. 아예 삭발을 해도 머리가 조금 자라나면 음영으로 대머리인지 알 수 있으니, 두피에 점을 수백개에서 수천개를 찍어서 뭔가 자라나는 것처럼 보이게 하는 것. 이 경우 탈모가 와도 티가 전혀 나지 않는 데다 반 영구적으로 가는지라 수시로 관리를 할 필요도 없다. 단 시술자의 실력에 따라 성공여부가 좀 심하게 갈려서 처음부터 잘 되어야 하는지라 좀 운이 따라줘야 한다.

Stray Kids의 현진이 머리 스타일을 한 것이 유명하다. 그러나 사진 처럼 이렇게까지 금발, 핑크 등 밝은색으로 염색하는 경우는 드물고[4] 대부분 전체 다운펌을 해서 차분하게 만들거나 호날두처럼 페이드나 스크래치를 주는 경우가 많다. 호불호가 많이 갈리기 때문인지 아직 일반인 사이에서는 찾아보기 어렵지만 힙합씬에서 자주 많이 보인다. 국외에서는 프랭크 오션이나 J Balvin이 유명하며 국내에는 오왼, 송민호나 Dok2가 유명하다.
