1. 개요
도어즈의 5번째 스튜디오 음반.2. 상세
짐 모리슨이 1969년 마이애미 공연에서의 외설 혐의로 법정에 출두해야 했기 때문에(자세한 것은 짐 모리슨 문서 참조) 도어즈는 시간의 압박을 느꼈다. 실제로 짐이 구금되면 라이브 앨범이라도 내려고 공연을 녹음하기도 하였다. 하지만 미국 사법부의 느린 일처리로 도어즈는 새 스튜디오 음반을 발매할 수 있었다.4집이 기대한 것보다 좋지 않은 평가를 받자, 도어즈는 본연의 록으로 돌아가서 R&B에 영향을 받은 남성적인 사운드로 앨범을 채웠다.
Side One은 'Hard Rock café', Side Two는 'Morrison Hotel'이라고 나누어 부른다. 빌보드 200에서 4위를 차지했지만 히트 싱글은 없었다.

4. 여담
- 앨범 커버의 Morrison Hotel은 레이 만자렉이 아내와 로스앤젤레스의 다운타운을 드라이브하다 발견한 실제 호텔이다. 그런데 존 덴스모어의 책에 따르면, 도어즈가 호텔 주인에게 호텔 사진을 좀 찍어도 되겠냐고 물어보았지만 거절당했다고 한다. 이 사진은 직원 몰래 호텔에 들어가 찍은 것이다.
- 10억짜리 고가 LP 오디오[1]를 제작하는 FM 어쿠스틱스의 후버 회장이 꼭 휴대하는 음반으로 유명하다.
[1] 주문 후 구입까지 11개월이 걸리며, 구입하는 사람이 여러 오디오 조합을 하려 해도 후버 회장의 기준으로 조합이 맞지 않으면 팔지 않는다고 한다.
