엘비스 프레슬리류의 로커빌리가 백인에 의한 흑인 음악의 재해석이었다면, 레이 찰스는 이 음반으로 백인의 장르였던 컨트리 음악을 흑인 음악의 언어로 해석하며 당대 대중음악계에 암묵적으로 존재하던 인종 분리를 무너트렸다고 할 수 있다. 컨트리, 알앤비, 소울, 로큰롤 등등 전반적인 장르에 큰 영향을 끼친 음반으로 인정 받는다.
