| 밤나무의 줄기 |
하지만 혹벌에 의한 피해로 나무가 고사해갔고, 1991년에 지정해제되었다. 현재 나무가 위치했던 장소에는 민가와 밭이 들어서있다. 이후로 한동안 천연기념물 밤나무는 존재하지 않았으나 2008년에 평창 운교리 밤나무가 천연기념물로 지정되며 국내 최고의 밤나무라는 명성을 잇게 되었다.
3. 천연기념물 제97호
||<tablewidth=100%><tablebordercolor=transparent><tablebgcolor=transparent>밤나무는 참나무과< 科 >에 딸린 낙엽교목< 落葉喬木 >이며 나무의 높이 12m(당초 54m), 가슴높이의 둘레 7.3m이다. 수령< 樹齡 >은 500년 정도로 추정하고 있으나 동호승람고사조< 東湖勝覽古事條 >에 의하면 1,000년 전 부정< 副正 > 최옥< 崔沃 >이 심은 나무라고 전하고 있다. 혹벌의 피해로 한쪽은 거의 죽었으나 아직 한쪽은 살아 있으며 밑부분만이 남아 있다.
