1집 Nine Track Mind의 처참한 평가를 만회하기 위해 엄청나게 노력한 흔적이 남은 앨범. 새롭게 연구한 것을 시도해 보는 음악들이다. 재즈 전공인 찰리가 1집인 Nine Track Mind에서는 맛 보여주기 식이었다면, 2집인 Voicenotes에서는 재즈 팝으로 새로운 음색을 보여주었다. 또한 발매를 앞둔 3집을 위해 음악 방향성을 어떻게 잡아야할지 연구 중이라고 인터뷰에서 밝혔다. 완전히 새로운 장르를 시도하여서 대중들이 좋게 받아들일까 많은 걱정을 했다고 한다.

음악인으로서 전성기에 접어드는 시기이니 만큼 지금 같은 때에 주목을 받는 것이 중요한데, 현 음악 시장은 힙합 트랙이 대세이기 때문에 R&B와 팝을 주력으로 둔 찰리 푸스의 음악이 대중성을 사로잡기는 무리가 있기 때문에 안타깝다는 평이 존재한다. 또한 앨범 발매까지의 공백 기간이 꽤 길다는 점에서 비롯된 지지 기반이 확고하지 않다는 부분이 흠.[3]

샘 스미스와 위켄드를 적당히 섞어놓은 개성 없는 테크니션이 아닌 보이즈 투 맨과 마이클 잭슨으로 향했다. 유행을 따라가는 것보다 다양한 시도를 하며 자신의 스타일을 찾아가는 중이며 앞으로가 더 기대되는 가수인 것은 분명하다.
