2025년 5월 30일에 발매된 마일리 사이러스의 9번째 정규 앨범.

2. 발매 과정

2024년 11월, 하퍼스 바자와의 인터뷰에서 새 앨범 작업을 시작했다고 발표했으며, 동시에 앨범의 이름 또한 Something Beautiul이 될 것이라 언급했다.[4]

2025년 3월 24일, 앨범 아트와 발매일이 공개되었다.[5] 수록곡은 13곡이며, 마일리 사이러스와 션 에버렛이 총괄 프로듀싱한 앨범이라는 것 또한 공개되었다.[6]

3월 26일, 6월 중 마일리 사이러스가 감독으로 참여한 동명의 비주얼 필름이 공개된다고 발표했다.

3월 31일, 첫 번째 곡인 "Prelude"가 발매되었으며, 비주얼 비디오도 같이 공개되었다. 같은 날, 두 번째 곡인 "Something Beautiul"과 뮤직비디오가 공개되었다.

4월 3일, 앨범의 리드 싱글 "End of the World"가 발매되었다.

5월 9일, "More to Lose"가 발매되었다. 다만 마일리가 "싱글"이리고만 표현해서 앨범의 두 번째 싱글인지는 아직 모호한 상태이다.[7]

5월 19일, 트랙리스트가 공개되었으며 두 명의 가수가[8] 피처링에 참여할 것임이 밝혀졌다.

3. 구성

앨범의 장르는 팝과[9] 프로그레시브 팝으로 분류된다.[10]

글렌 러치포드가 촬영한 커버 아트에는 마일리 사이러스가 1997년 티에리 뮈글러의 아카이브 꾸뛰르 의상을 입고 등장하며, 이는 앨범의 대담한 미학과 시각적 스토리텔링을 표현한 인상적인 오마주로 평가되었다.[11] 마일리 본인은 이번 앨범을 "최면적"(hypnotic)이라 표현하며, "병든 문화에 음악을 통한 치료를 시도한 결과물"(an attempt to medicate somewhat of a sick culture through music)이라고 설명한 바 있다.

앨범은 아름다움, 죽음, 환각, 무상함, 실연, 파괴 등의 주제를 중심으로 전개된다. 마일리는 이러한 주제에 대해 "삶에서 가장 끔찍한 순간조차도 그 안에 아름다움이 있다. 그것들은 그림자의 역할을 하고, 숯처럼 명암을 만들어낸다. 하이라이트와 대비가 없다면 그림도 존재할 수 없다"고 설명했다.[a][13]

Something Beautiful은 비주얼 앨범으로, 존재론적 주제를 담고 있다. 이 앨범은 트라우마로부터의 치유와 인생의 가장 어두운 순간 속에서 아름다움을 발견하는 과정을 중심으로 구성되어 있다.[a]

5. 성적

미국에선 첫주 44,000장 (퓨어 판매량 27,000장)으로 빌보드 200 앨범차트 4위로 데뷔했다. 전작 Endless Summer Vacation의 초동 (11만장)에 비해 대폭 하락한 수치인데, 히트싱글의 부재와 마이너하고 실험적인 예술성에 힘을 실은 앨범의 컨셉이 원인인듯.

영국에선 첫주 5,000장 정도로 앨범차트 3위로 데뷔했다. 마일리 커리어 사상 제일 적은 첫주 초동.

상업적으로는 처참하게 망했지만 컨셉추얼한 앨범의 구성과 곡 개별의 완성도는 아주 뛰어나다. 특히 Walk Of Fame은 앨범에서 제일 호평을 받는중. 차트 성적은 암전이지만 2026 그래미에서 베스트 팝 보컬 앨범 부문에 후보로 오르며 음악성을 인정 받았다.
