1. 개요

미국의 인디 포크 싱어송라이터이자 멀티 연주자이다. 2000년 앨범 A Sun Came을 통해 이름을 알렸고, 2005년 Illinois 앨범을 통해 유명세를 날렸다. 앨범마다 다양한 음악 스타일을 시도하며, 자신의 종교적 영향을 드러내기도 한다. 영화 콜 미 바이 유어 네임의 사운드트랙 Mystery of Love는 제90회 아카데미 시상식의 주제가상 후보에 오르기도 했다.

2. 음악 스타일

보컬과 악기 사이의 경계가 흐릿한 음색과 몽환적인 사운드가 큰 특징이다.

많은 노래들이 영적인 암시를 지니고 있으나, 자신을 종교적인 음악가로 분류하지는 않는다고 인터뷰에서 밝힌 바 있다. 많은 평단과 특히 피치포크에서 높게 평가하는 아티스트 중 하나이다.

가사 중 여럿에서 자신의 동성애자로써의 정체성을 표출한다. Futile Devices가 그 대표적인 예시. 2023년에 Javelin 관련 내용으로 공식적으로 커밍아웃했다.

2023년 10월 6일 발매되었다. 평가는 상당히 호평. 카리어 하이를 갱신했다는 사람도 많은 편이다.
앨범 발매 홍보를 못한 이유가 길랭-바레 증후군을 진단 받아서라고 한다. 2023년 9월 말 기준으로 아직 걸을 수 없으며 완치에 1년정도 걸린다고 전했다.

정규 앨범은 5년 주기로 내지만[3], 콜라보 앨범의 주기는 비교적 자주 내는 편이다.
