1. 개요
전라남도 신안군 앞바다에서 발굴된 침몰선. 선박 내부에서 유물들과 함께 발견된 목간의 기록을 해독한 결과 이 배는 고려 시대인 1323년에 원나라에서 건조하고 닝보[1]에서 출항한 무역선으로, 일본(당시 가마쿠라 막부 시기)으로 가다가 서해 부근에서 표류되어 신안군 앞바다에서 침몰한 것으로 밝혀졌다.
그 후 오랜 세월이 흘러 650여년이 만인 1975년 신안 앞바다에서 유물의 존재가 정부에 인지되었고, 1976년부터 조사를 시작하여 최종조사가 끝난 1984년 9월까지 장장 9년 동안 10차에 걸쳐서 문화재관리국(현 국가유산청)과 대한민국 해군에 의해 유물 발굴 작업이 이루어졌다. 발굴 과정에는 대한민국 해군 최초이자 마지막 수리함인 덕수급 수리함 1번함 덕수함이 참여했다.

3. 선내 유물

3.1. 가치
이 신안 보물선의 발견은 한국 해양고고학의 시작이기도 하다. 이 배 한척에 담겨진 온갖 문화재는 장난이 아닌데 가장 가치있는 것은 역시 배 그 자체고 다음으로는 배에 실려있던 도자기 특히 용천청자들이다. 다만 남송 시절 만들어진 게 아니고 원나라 때 만들어진 물건이라 남송 시절 용천청자보다는 조금 가치가 떨어진다. 그렇다고는 해도 숫자는 적지만 남송 시대 작품 못지 않은 명품들도 여러 점 나와서 원대에도 여전히 명품 청자들이 제조되고 있었다는 사실을 알려주고 있다. 이 발견 하나로 한국은 세계 유수의 용천청자 보유국이 되었다. 이 배에서 중국 옛 동전도 800만개, 2.8톤이나 들어가 있었는데 이건 당시 동전도 많은 이윤을 남기는 수출 상품이었기 때문이다. 다만 동전 수출은 이윤은 높지만 정부에서 수출을 금지한 물품이었기 때문에 발견된 동전은 아마도 밀수품일 것이다.[6] 더불어 여러 종류의 금속 공예품들과 자단목, 향신료 등등도 발견되었다.4. 매체

5. 기타
해양 유물들의 대부분이 그렇듯 신안선도 도굴꾼들의 마수를 피하지 못했다. 소문을 들은 도굴꾼들이 집단으로 쳐들어와서 유물들을 훔쳐가버린 것이다. 그래서 국가적으로 나서서 대부분의 유물을 다시 되찾아 오는 소동이 있었다. 그리고 신안선의 발굴은 국립해양유산연구소와 국립광주박물관이 만들어지는 계기가 되었다.2023년은 신안선 발굴 50주년을 맞이하는 해로 국립광주박물관측에서는 이를 기념해 2020년 12월에 비대면 세미나를 열었고, 다시 박물관을 리모델링하여 2층에 신안실을 두었던 것을 1층으로 옮겨서 '아시아도자문화실'이라는 이름으로 바꾼 뒤 그곳에 유물들을 전시하고 있다.
씁쓸하지만 당시 이 배를 발견한 어부는 보상은 전혀 받지 못했고 오히려 어부들을 어업을 금지하면서 인양하느라 그 어부는 1990년대 언론에서 당시에 괜히 신고했다고 분노를 담아 인터뷰하기도 했다. 내가 신고하는 통에 이웃들도 어업을 못해 막대한 손해를 보고 먹고 살 길이 막혔다고 내가 얼마나 욕먹었는지 아냐면서. 하지만, 다른 언론 취재에선 이 어부가 몰래 이 유물들을 내다팔려다가 입건되는 등, 꼭 칭송받을 일을 한 것이 아니라는 반론 보도 같은 것이 나오기도 했다.
유물은 한동안 국립광주박물관에서 보관, 전시하다가 현재는 목포 국립해양유산연구소 해양유물전시관에서 전시 중이다.
발견된 목간을 통해 화물의 행선지중 한곳이 현재에도 존재하는 교토시 히기시야마구의 도후쿠지(東福寺)라는것이 밝혀졌다.
5.1. 중국과의 관계
중국 측이 반환을 요구했다가 거부당한 일이 있듯이 침몰선 및 물품을 두고 소유권 분쟁이 세계적으로 많다. 원나라에서 수출 상품들을 실고 일본으로 가던 중 당시 항해 기술의 한계로 한반도 연안을 따라 항해하다가 신안 앞바다에서 침몰한 것으로 보인다. 중국에서도 당시 배는 남아있는 게 없기에[7] 돌려달라고 일단 요구하고 있다. 하지만 이건 우리나라 해역에서 당당하게 발견한 것이라 중국에서 요구하긴 하지만 법적으로 뭐라고 할 수도 없기에 우리나라에서도 무시하고 있다. 그리고 중국에서도 강력하게 요구하지 못하고 있다.#!if version2 == null

, [[https://namu.wiki/w/?uuid=#s-|번 문단]]}}} ([[https://namu.wiki/history/?from=|이전 역사]])}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}[1] 현재의 명칭인 닝보는 명대에 붙여진 것으로 당시에는 밍저우로 불렸다. 원은 1276년 이 지역을 확보하고 1277년 광저우, 취안저우와 함께 이곳에 시박사를 설치하였다. 이후 내부적 요인으로 인하여 무역항을 일시 폐쇄하기도 했으나 1322년부터 무역을 재개하였다. 일본의 상선은 당말 이후, 취안저우, 푸저우 등 강남의 여러 항구를 이용했지만, 원대에는 주로 밍저우를 이용했다.[2] 오랜 세월 속에 유실된 것들도 꽤 있을 테니. 주민들의 증언을 들어보면 잡으려는 생선은 안 잡히고 웬 도자기가 그물에 걸려 올라오니 그냥 깨서 버려버리거나(!), 아무 그릇으로 쓰거나, 엿 바꿔먹어 버려서(...) 사라지거나 행방을 알 수 없게 된 유물들도 적잖이 있는 듯하다.[3] 청자류 12,359점, 백자류 5,303점, 흑유류 506점, 잡유류 2,305점, 백탁유류 188점, 석재류 43점, 금속류 729점, 기타 547점 등.(출처: <신안해저유물 자료편>,1984, 문화공보부 문화재관리국편)[4] 얇고 가는 막대 여러 개를 포개어서 만든 일반적인 체와는 다르게 프라이팬에 구멍 여러 개가 뚫려 있는 모습이었다.[5] 제1차부터 7차 발굴까지 3톤, 8차에서 18톤, 9차에서 7톤, 10차부터 최종 발굴까지 19킬로그램이 발굴되었다. 일부 동전의 경우 연대를 기록한 명문이 있어 목간이 판독되기 전까지 선박의 침몰 연대를 가늠할 수 있는 중요한 자료가 되었다. 기원후 14년부터 유통된 화천부터 1311년까지 제작된 지대통보(至大通寶)에 이르기까지 역대 중국 왕조에서 주조된 화폐 66건 299종이 확인됐다. 이 중에는 일반 동전 3~4배에 해당하는 '대전'이 포함되는데, 이는 일반적으로 당시 일본에서는 유통되지 않았던 것으로 아마도 녹여서 다른 것을 만들기 위한 원재료 또는 장식품의 용도로 수입했을 것으로 추정된다.[6] 당시는 중국 역사에서도 이례적으로 동전이 많이 제조된 시기로 송나라 일대에만 대략 1500억에서 2000억 개 정도가 제조된 것으로 추정된다. 2천만 개가 아니고 2천억 개 맞다. 때문에 지금도 어마어마한 양이 남아 있고 땅만 파면 나오는 게 당시 동전이라 연대상으로 오래된 물건인데도 불구하고 골동품이나 옛날 화폐로서의 가치가 거의 없다. 지금도 이베이 같은 곳에 많이 올라오는 데 천 년 가까이 된 동전이 상태 괜찮은 놈으로 개당 1달러 남짓에 살 수 있다. 이것도 개인 거래할 때나 그런 가격이고 전문적인 고화폐상점에선 받아줄지도 의문이다. 중국은 이미 한나라때 1년 동전생산량이 2억개에 달했는데 하물며 송대의 동전생산량은 말할 필요도 없다.[7] 사실 과거 배들은 여럿 남아있었으나, 멍청하게도 그놈의 문화대혁명 때 죄다 부숴버렸다... 이후 몇번 중국에서도 배가 발견되어 인양되긴 했지만 명나라라든가 청나라 같이 시대상으로 훨씬 뒤에 침몰한 배들이다.
