더 스미스의 대표곡으로 꼽히는 곡 중 하나. 학교 생활이 힘들던 모리세이가 맨체스터 학교에서 겪은 일을 토대로, 학교 폭력과 체벌의 끔찍함을 묘사한 곡이다. 라디오헤드의 커버 버전이 있다.절묘한 코드 진행[1]과 리프가 매력적인 곡이다. 작곡 당시 다분히 조지 해리슨 스타일을 떠올리며 만들었으며, 당시엔 의식하지 못했지만 비틀즈의 Day Tripper와 흡사하다는 걸 나중에 깨달았다고 조니 마가 밝힌 바 있다.
