1. 개요
네이버 웹툰 신의 탑의 등장인물.
자하드의 체제가 자리 잡은 이래 들어온 두 번째 비선별인원이다.
탑에서 신이나 다름없는 자하드의 절대방어구간인 내궁에 아무런 전조도 없이 쳐들어와 최상위 랭커인 많은 왕족과 신하들을 참살한 '자하드 왕궁 침입 사건'을 일으켰다. 궁의 모든 방어선을 뚫고 자하드와 마주 서는 데까지 성공했으나, 정작 자하드를 건드리지도 않고 사라져 그 의문의 행적 그대로 "수수께끼(謎謎(なぞなぞ) / The Riddle)"라는 이명을 획득한다.
작중 언급은 이게 다지만, 작가가 작품 외적으로 이런저런 설정을 풀면서 먼치킨성이 더욱 부각된 캐릭터에 속한다. 후술할 내용은 여기에 기반한 것이 많으니 주의.

아래의 일러스트에서도 알 수 있듯이, 일단 체형은 인간과 유사하나 흡사 신해어와 닮은 괴물같은 형태의 머리와 주둥이, 그리고 헤돈과 비슷하게 입으로 보이는 신체 속은 눈과 혀로 보이는 징그럽게 생긴 촉수다발로 이루어져 있어, 한눈에 봐도 인간과는 거리가 먼 실로 기괴한 형상을 하고 있다. 그뿐만 아니라 신체의 크기도 절벽의 윗부분을 뒤덮을 만큼 거대하다.

자하드와 하 유리를 제외한 나머지 모든 목격자들이 죽거나 공포로 인해 정신 질환까지 앓고 있는 점을 고려하면 크툴루 신화에 나올 법한 끔찍하고 기괴한 신들에 가까운 형상으로 보인다.
2.2. 성격과 인맥
수수께끼라는 이명답게 불명. 애초에 사건만 일으키고 사라진 데다가 대사조차 한마디도 없어서 성격을 전혀 파악할 수 없다.
다만 우렉 마지노의 관계에 대해 여러 모로 말이 많은데, 자세하게 알려진 바는 없으나 우렉이 펜타미넘을 쫓아 탑에 들어왔다는 것은 확실한 사실인 듯하다.
이와 관련해 펜타미넘보다 낮은 자신의 랭킹에 불만을 가진 우렉 마지노가 랭커 관리국에 침입하여 부국장인 로버트 아이샌드를 붙잡아 놓고 자신의 랭킹을 올리라고 협박한 적이 있었는데, "내가 펜타미넘과 싸우는 것을 본 적이 있냐?"고 물어보는 우렉에게 잠시의 망설임도 없이 "당신은 패배자(loser)가 될 것입니다."라고 딱 잘라 말해 충격을 받은 우렉 마지노가 쓸쓸히 집으로 돌아갈 수밖에 없었다고 한다.
그 후로 우렉 마지노는 월하익송 내에서 '우렉 루저노', '루저렉 마지노', '우루저 멘탈 마지노선' 등으로 놀림 받았으며, 이 사건을 재구성한 코믹북, 유머책 등이 제작되어 탑에서 인기리에 판매될 정도였다고 한다. 우렉의 친구 백련은 이 코믹스들이 우울증 치료에 큰 효과가 있을 것이라고 놀렸다.
아무래도 둘이 면식이 있는 것은 사실인 듯하고, 우렉과 견원지간이라는 소문이 있는 것을 보면 우렉이 펜타미넘에게 라이벌 의식을 가지고 있을지도. 허나 두 사람의 힘의 격차는 그야말로 하늘과 땅 그 이상이기에, 도대체 탑 바깥에서 어떤 사이였기에 우렉이 펜타미넘더러 라이벌 운운할 수 있는지 독자들로 하여금 많은 궁금증을 불러 일으키고 있었다.
스핀오프작인 "우렉 마지노"에서 밝혀지길, 펜타미넘은 빛나는 자들을 집어삼키기 위해 탄생했고 우렉 마지노는 그런 펜타미넘에게 대항하기 위해 새로이 탄생한 빛나는 자라고 한다. 또한 보석의 빛에 반해서 창조주인 어둠의 명령을 거부하고 독자적으로 행동한다는 점에서 자아와 감정은 존재하는 것으로 추정된다.
하 유리 자하드와도 의문의 연관성이 있다. 자하드 왕궁 침입 사건의 목격자가 죽거나 공포에 정신 질환을 앓고 있어 정확한 건 전해지지 않지만 어째서인지 딱 한 명, 내궁에 있던 하 유리만은 그를 보고도 정신에 문제 없이 멀쩡히 살아남았다.
2.3. 실력
장기 연재 내내 신의 탑 세계관 최강자로 취급되는 자이자, 엔류와 함께 탑의 절대적인 법칙마저 넘어서는 진짜 말 그대로의 넘사벽. 작가 공인, 탑을 한순간에 무너뜨릴 수 있는 유일한 캐릭터이다.
외전 우렉마지노에서 나오길 태초의 '어둠'이 낳은 신적 존재로, 빛이 창조한 생명 중 가장 빛났으나 세상에 혼란을 가져온 여섯의 "빛나는 자"들을 처단하기 위한 질서의 수호자이자 최강의 생명체였다고 한다.
2.4. 그 외 설정
안정, 변화, 혁명, 자유 중 3번째 가치인 혁명을 상징하는 인물로 보여진다.
자하드 성 침공 이후 사라져 아무런 활동이 없는 펜타미넘을 랭킹 1위로 올리는 것에 대해서 랭킹 관리국에서도 말이 많았으나, 그 놀라운 전투력 하나만으로도 압도적인 존재감이라는 것에는 누구도 이견이 없었다. 결국 펜타미넘은 오직 단 한 번의 전투만으로 이전까지 랭킹 1위를 지키고 있던 붉은 탑 엔류를 2위로 내리고 랭킹 1위에 등극한다.
둘은 한 번도 겨뤄본 적이 없는데, 둘이 실제로 겨룰 경우 누가 승리할 것이냐에 대해서 의견이 분분한 걸 보면 탑 내의 사람들은 엑시즈의 존재 자체를 아예 모르는 듯하다. 이 경우 자하드와 10가주 모두가 덤벼도 이길 수 없는 관리자를 살해한 엔류가 어째서 고작 왕가의 랭커들을 학살하고 사라진 펜타미넘보다 낮은 랭킹에 책정되었는지 알 수 없다.
아이샌드는 왜 내가 펜타미넘보다 랭킹이 낮냐는 우렉의 항변에 즉각 "당신은 루저가 될 것입니다"라고 했는데, 이걸 어찌 확신했는지 도통 알 수가 없다. 어쩌면 랭킹 관리국은 펜타미넘의 힘에 차원이 다른 무언가가 있을 것이라고 판단했던 것일 수도. 혹은 당시 펜타미넘과 마주한 자하드가 무언가를 보았을 가능성도 있다.
자하드 성 침공 이후 탑에서 들려오는 대부분의 이야기가 소문뿐인지라 진상 확인도 어렵다. 결국 펜타미넘은 대부분의 정보가 수수께끼에서 시작하여 수수께끼로 끝나는 괴물이며, 이 괴물이 또 언제 활동을 시작할지에 대해 탑의 랭커들은 촉각을 곤두세우고 있다.
펜타미넘 이후 비선별인원에 대한 탑의 안 좋은 시선은 한층 늘어났으며, 이후 우렉이 탑을 올라가는 데도 큰 영향을 끼쳤다. 이때를 기점으로 다른 층과 다를 바 없는 시험을 치르던 시험의 층(2층)의 시험이 더 복잡해졌다. 이전의 비선별인원들처럼 탑에 위해가 될 만한 자들을 조기에 파악해 탑을 올라가지 못하게 만들 필요가 생겼기 때문이다.
길어봐야 500년 정도밖에 안 된 사건이지만,[1] 펜타미넘은 그 이후 아무런 활동이 없기 때문에 탑에서 몇백 년 정도는 긴 시간이 아님에도 꽤 옛날 사람 취급을 받는다.
2.5. 엑시즈
이명답게 알려진 점이 매우 적고, 면식이 있는 듯한 우렉 마지노의 입으로 몇 번 언급된 게 다지만 작품 외적으로는 정보가 꽤 풀려있다.엑시즈라는 설정 자체가 너무 오래된 지라 변경 가능성이 충분하지만, 일단 펜타미넘은 엑시즈 전체를 통틀어서도 Top 5 안에 들어가는 최강급 엑시즈이다.
작가가 직접 펜타미넘의 강함에 대해 "일단 비엑시즈는 다 버로우"라고 언급한다. 즉, 모든 세계관 통틀어서도 엑시즈가 아니라면 펜타미넘을 이길 만한 존재는 아예 없다고 공언한 셈이다.
또한 엑시즈는 현실 조작 능력을 발휘하여 원하는 이야기를 현실에 임의로 새기는 행위가 가능하다고 한다. 자신과 같거나 보다 상위의 엑시즈가 아닌 이상 대적 자체가 불가능한, T.U.S. 세계관 최강의 능력이다. 정말로 신에 필적한다고 생각하면 된다. 능력 자체에 대한 설명은 엑시즈(T.U.S) 문서 참조.

외전 우렉마지노에서 '보석의 왕'이라는 이명을 가졌다는 설정이 공개되었는데, 기존에 있었던 몇몇 최강자급 엑시즈들의 명칭인 '인조의 왕', '구국의 왕'과 유사한 작명법인 터라 엑시즈 설정이 폐기되지 않았으며 top 5급 엑시즈라는 설정도 유지중일 가능성이 높아졌다.- 우렉 마지노 1화
3. 작중 행적
3.1. 신의 탑
최초의 언급은 2화에서 하 유리 자하드와 에반 에드록이 비선별인원에 대해 만담을 나눌 때 나온다.10화에서 레로-로가 스물다섯번째 밤에게 비선별인원에 대해 설명할 때 랭킹 순으로 엔류, 우렉 마지노와 함께 예시로서 명시되었다.
1부 57화에서 외모 문단의 회상씬이 한장 나왔다.
3.2. 우렉 마지노
1화 시험의 층에서 첫등장했으며 원작 1부 57화 과거회상 등장이후 14년만에 처음으로 온전한 모습으로 등장했다.태초에 빛이 창조한 생명 중 가장 빛났던 생명체인 '빛나는 자'들이 세상에 혼란을 가져오자, 어둠이 빛의 생명을 처단할 질서의 수호자로 펜타미넘을 만들어낸다. 펜타미넘은 여섯 명의 빛나는 자들을 모두 굴복시킨 뒤 보석으로 만들어 봉인했다. 이에 어둠이 보석들을 가지고 돌아오라고 명령하지만, 보석의 빛에 마음을 빼앗긴 펜타미넘은 명령을 거부한다.
이후 그에게 대항할 유일한 존재인 우렉 마지노가 태어나고, 어느 시점에서 펜타미넘은 탑에 들어가게 된다. 그 뒤 우렉마지노가 그를 따라 탑에 들어온다.
1층의 관리자 헤돈은 우렉이 들어올 때는 직접 마중나가서 환영까지 했으나 우렉이 펜타미넘을 아냐고 묻자 전혀 모르겠다는 반응을 보였다. 규격 외 존재인 펜타미넘을 인식하지 못한 것일 수도 있고, 펜타미넘이 애초에 탑의 1층이 아니라 처음부터 다른 층으로 진입한 것일 수도 있으며[2], 신의탑 본편 1화에서 헤돈이 밤에게 라헬을 모른다며 거짓말을 했던걸 생각하면 헤돈이 우렉에게 블러핑을 쳤을 가능성도 있다.
4. 떡밥
2부 114화에서 알루미크 에드록이 말하길 '탑은 무언가에 필요한 인물들에게만 문을 열어준다'는 것. 즉, 자하드 왕가 소속의 랭커들과 왕족, 신하들을 척살한 펜타미넘도 탑에게 무언가를 가져다준다는 얘기가 되며, 거꾸로 말해 펜타미넘의 왕족 척살에는 탑 전체에 도움이 되는 특별한 이유가 있었던 게 아닌가 의심된다. 이것이 반드시 기존 자하드 체제를 무너뜨리고 탑 전체에 진정한 자유를 가져다준다는 식의 장밋빛 목적인지는 알 수 없지만.그러나 탑이 필요한 것을 가지고 있느냐랑은 상관없이 펜타미넘이나 엔류는 출입이 자유로울 가능성이 매우 높다. 애초에 이 둘은 우렉이나 자하드와는 달리 정상적으로 탑을 오르지도 않았을 뿐더러 최하층으로 들어오지도 않았다. 말인 즉슨 다른 비선별인원처럼 탑이 선택하여 최하층의 문으로 들어온 게 아니라는 의미이다. 외전인 우렉 마지노에서 헤돈이 펜타미넘이 무엇인지조차 모르는 장면이 나와 엔류가 그랬든 펜타미넘도 최하층으로 들어오지 않았을 가능성이 더욱 높아졌다.
애초에 탑의 신이나 다름없는 관리자를 무려 신수를 사용해 죽여버린 엔류만 해도 탑에 들어오거나 나가는 게 자유로울 확률이 매우 높고,[3] 펜타미넘은 아예 작가가 직접 '탑을 한순간에 박살내버리는 게 가능한 존재'라고 공언했기에, 탑의 허락과는 관계 없이 본인 의사 마음대로 오고가는 게 충분히 가능할 것이다.
밤의 출생의 비밀이 밝혀지고, 여기에 엔류까지 관계되어 있음이 드러나면서, 펜타미넘도 밤과 무언과 관계가 있는 게 아닌가 하는 추측이 나오기 시작했다.
특히 비올레(밤)의 친모가 비올레를 소생시키기 위해 바쳤다던 '탑 바깥의 신'이란 존재가 펜타미넘일 가능성도 부정할 수 없다. 위에 기술된 엑시즈의 특징을 보면 알겠지만 엑시즈는 전지전능에 가까운 존재이니, 엑시즈가 아닌 사람들에게 신(절대자)이라고 여겨져도 이상할 것이 없기 때문이다. 게다가 하필 엔류를 '신의 사자'라 칭했기 때문에 더더욱 무게가 실린다.
본인이 일으킨 왕궁 침입 사건 때 자하드를 건드리지도 않고 넘어간 것도, 미래에 찾아올 밤이 자하드를 죽이게끔 한다는 이유라면 어느 정도 맞아 떨어진다. 또한 하 유리 자하드를 죽이지 않았던 것도 유리를 밤의 조력자로 써먹기 위해 내버려뒀을지도 모르는 부분.
유리가 유난히 밤에게 상당한 신뢰를 가지고 있고, 비올레가 죽지 않을 것이라고 확신하는 등의 모습을 보면 펜타미넘이 하 유리 본인에게 밤과 관련된 무언가를 알려주었을지도 모른다. 무엇보다도 2부 193화에서 비올레가 죽지 않을 거라고 확신하면서 "예전부터 그렇게 정해져 있었으니까"라고 말하는 것을 보면 이 가설의 가능성이 더더욱 높아진다.
만약 아를렌이 말한 탑 바깥의 신이 펜타미넘이 맞다면 엔류와는 우호 관계가 되는 셈이며, 더 나아가 애초에 둘이 주종관계일지도 모른다. 엔류를 휘하에 둘 만한 인물은 현재 공개된 캐릭터 중에서 오직 펜타미넘뿐만이라는 점과 위의 근거들로 인해 이쪽 설에 무게가 실리고 있다.
다만 이럴 경우에 펜타미넘은 왜 자기 부하인 엔류한테 자하드 궁을 쓸어버리라 하지 않고 본인이 직접 했냐는 의혹이 생긴다. 자하드 궁의 선별인원이라고 해봐야 높게 쳐줘도 하이 랭커인데, 그들 전부는 물론 자하드보다도 훨씬 강한 관리자를 죽여버린 엔류가 왕가를 혼자 못 쓸어버릴 이유는 없기 때문이다. 만일 본인이 직접 대화를 해야 할 존재가 있다면[4] 엔류가 아니라 펜타미넘 본인이 나서야 할 테니, 자기가 직접 나선 걸 수도 있다.
일단 밤의 존재나 행보에 대해서 최소 한 명의 엑시즈가 개입한 것은 확실해 보이며, 그렇다면 펜타미넘 역시 어떤 식으로든 연관이 있을 것이다. 현재 신의 탑의 전개를 보면 아직 엑시즈에 대한 설명도 나오지 않았으니 까마득히 기다려야 할 듯하다.
외전 우렉 마지노에서 펜타미넘에 대한 설정이 공개됨에 따라 조금 더 일찍 설정이 나올 가능성이 생겼다.

6. 엔류와의 랭킹 관련 논란
결론부터 말하면 탑에서 한 일과는 별개로 세계관 내의 설정상 힘은 엑시즈 사용자인 펜타미넘이 당연히 아득하게 더 위이다. 애초에 펜타미넘은 신의 탑뿐만이 아니라 T.U.S 세계관 전체를 통틀어 최강자 급이다. 하지만 탑의 사람들은 엑시즈의 존재를 모르니 둘 중 누가 더 강한지도 당연히 모른다.탑에서의 행적만으로 따져본다면, '왕가 학살을 일으켰으나 자하드를 죽이지도 않고 사라진 펜타미넘이 왜 자하드와 우렉 마지노와 10가주를 포함한 탑의 모든 생명체가 한꺼번에 덤벼도 절대 못 이기는 관리자를 살해한 엔류보다 랭킹이 높은가'가 쟁점인 것.
펜타미넘의 강함은 독자들만이 알고 있을 뿐, 탑에 알려져 있지 않다. 이 엑시즈라는 설정도 작가가 본편에서 푼 것이 아니라 신의 탑 이전에 개인적으로 연재하던 작품과 블로그에 적혀있던 것이고, 이마저도 작가가 신의 탑이 T.U.S 세계관의 일부라고 언급하고 펜타미넘이 엑시저라는 설정을 풀었기에 성립되는 것이다.
탑의 인물들이 보기에, 엔류는 관리자를 단신으로 압도하여 살해했으니, 펜타미넘이 저지른 왕궁 학살 따위는 비교 대상도 될 수 없다. 반대로 펜타미넘이 엔류처럼 관리자를 살해할 수 있을지는 유추가 불가능하니, 행위의 난이도만 놓고 본다면 엔류가 펜타미넘보다 월등히 위이다.
영향력으로 따져봐도 마찬가지이다. 펜타미넘의 왕가 학살 당시에 딱히 네임드 캐릭터가 죽었다는 말도 없고 설사 있었다고 해도 탑에 미치는 영향만 따지면 관리자 살해가 그야말로 비교조차 안 될 만큼 훨씬 더 크다. 규모는 다를지언정 펜타미넘은 고사하고 10가주보다도 아래인 유라시아 엔 자하드도 해낸 왕궁 랭커 학살을, 관리자조차 압도적으로 끔살한 엔류가 해내지 못 한다는 것은 말이 안 된다. 당장 엔류가 관리자를 죽이기 전에도 '가짜 왕을 믿는 자만 남아 나에게 죽으라'며 몰려오는 자하드의 추종자를 쓸어버렸고, 그 과정에서 분노한 관리자가 나타나자 관리자까지 죽여버린 것이다.
작중에서 아무리 관리자가 평소에 존재감이 없다고 한들,[5] 엔류의 관리자 살해로 인해 탑의 한 층이 아예 폐허가 된 것을 감안하면 여러 모로 말이 맞지 않는다. 분명 왕가의 랭커들이 랭커들 중에서도 격이 다르긴 하지만, 그렇다고 그들의 죽음이 관리자 살해를 묻어버릴 정도로 크게 충격적이라고 보기는 어렵다.
따라서 유추해볼 수 있는 것은, 펜타미넘이 '왕가 학살'이라는 결과 자체보다는 그 과정에 있어서 엔류의 관리자 살해보다도 영향력이 훨씬 더 큰 무언가를 보여줬을 가능성이 매우 크다는 것이다. 탑의 최강자 라인인 우렉 마지노가 랭커 관리국의 로버트 아이샌드에게 "왜 자신이 펜타미넘보다 랭킹이 낮냐"고 따졌을 때 아이샌드가 잠시의 망설임도 없이 펜타미넘과 우렉이 맞붙으면 우렉이 질 것이라고 공언한 설정이 존재하니, 왕궁 침입 과정에서 엔류를 능가할 만한 능력을 보여준 것이 아닌가 유추해볼 수 있다.
우렉이 선별인원 시절 10가주 최강자인 혼과 호각으로 맞섰다는 것과 이 싸움으로 인해서 우렉이 탑에서 가장 유명한 랭커들 중 하나가 됐다는 설정이 존재하는 만큼, 펜타미넘 역시 살해 과정에 있어서 랭킹 1위를 부여 받을 만한 것(예를 들면 엑시즈)의 능력을 보여준 것이 아니냐고 추측되고 있다. 실제로 펜타미넘이 수수께끼라는 이명을 받은 이유 중 하나가 자유분방하고 종잡을 수 없는 전투 스타일에 탑 어디에서도 볼 수 없는 무기를 가졌기 때문이라는 설정이 있다.
또한 기본적으로 그 정도 사건의 경우 관리자가 무조건 개입하는 것이 맞는데,[6] 개입해서 전투라도 한 엔류와는 달리 펜타미넘 사건의 경우 관리자가 아예 개입할 생각조차 못한 게 아니냐는 설도 존재한다. 실제로 관리자는 탑의 규칙에 벗어나는 행동엔 나름의 제재를 가하며, 트로이메라이와 구스트앙이 가주 자리를 걸고 캐삭빵을 벌이고 트로이메라이가 패하자 즉시 가주의 권능을 회수해버리는 등 마냥 관망하는 존재가 결코 아니다.

- 작가는 펜타미넘이 본편에 직접 등장할 예정이라는 엔류와는 달리 너무 사기적인 능력으로 인해 등장하지 않거나 이벤트 형식으로만 짧게 나올 것이라 밝힌 바 있다. 그 엔류도 너무 강하기에 신의 탑 후반부에나 아주 가끔 등장할 것이며, 전투신도 거의 없을 것이라고 못박았다.
- 이 문서만 읽어도 알겠지만 신의 탑 본편에서의 내용은 얼마 없고, 대부분이 작가가 뒷설정으로 써둔 내용이다. 신의 탑에서 탑 안의 사람들은 엑시즈라는 개념을 모른다. 그나마 우렉 마지노와 함께 이름이 종종 언급되는 정도.
