2.1. 여전한 카메라 고스트 현상

4.1. 하단 스피커 위치 변경

지금까지 모든 iPhone은 모든 하단 스피커가 우측에 위치했지만, 17 Pro 시리즈만 왼쪽에 위치하도록 바뀌었다. 심지어 17 시리즈의 기본모델은 기존과 같이 전면 기준 하단 스피커가 우측에 위치한다.

이미 삼성전자에서도 갤럭시 노트20와 노트20 Ultra 이후 내장 S펜 지원 제품들은 하단 스피커를 좌측에 배치하여 비판이 있는데 내장 스타일러스 펜이 들어가지 않으며 물리 SIM도 측면으로 들어가는 iPhone은 이번 스피커 배치 변경에 대한 합당한 이유를 찾기 어렵다.

이 스피커 배치가 문제가 되는 이유는 오른손잡이의 경우 폰을 쓰다 가로로 볼 때 자연스럽게 왼쪽으로 눕혀 잡게 되는데, 그렇게 잡으면 손바닥에 스피커가 막힌다. 그렇다고 오른쪽으로 눕혀 잡으면 카메라 렌즈가 손에 직접 닿아 거슬리는 것은 물론이고, 렌즈도 오염되며, 더불어 iPhone의 경우 오른쪽으로 눕혀 잡으면 전원 버튼 및 셔터 버튼이 손에 닿기 때문에 그립감도 나빠지고 실수로 누르기도 쉽다. 게다가 카메라 섬의 면적도 넓어서 간섭되는 영역도 더 넓다. 이 문제는 크기가 비교적 작은 6.3인치 17 Pro 모델이 더 심하다.

4.2. 알루미늄 외장재 사용

Apple은 iPhone X부터 라인업에 따라 소재에 차등을 두었고, iPhone 15 Pro에서 티타늄 프레임을 채용했을 때 티타늄의 우월성을 강조한 마케팅을 했으며, 15 Pro-16 Pro 2세대에 걸쳐 Pro 라인업에는 티타늄을 적용하고, 하위 라인업인 일반에는 알루미늄을 사용해 소재 차등을 두었다. 하지만 이번 17 Pro 시리즈에서는 알루미늄 합금 외장재를 적용해 원가 절감을 했다는 논란이 있다. #

코스믹 오렌지 마감의 알루미늄 외장 부분이 분홍빛으로 변색한 사례가 보고되었다. # 일부 딥 블루 마감 제품들에서도 비슷한 현상이 식별되고 있다. 해외에서는 컬러게이트라 불리고 있다.

이에 대해 과산화수소 기반 세정제에 의해 변색이 발생했을 수 있다는 주장이 제기되었다. # 그러나 업계에서는 일부 제품이 아노다이징 처리가 미흡하게 진행된 채 출하되었을 가능성을 더 높게 보고 있다. # 햇빛에 노출된 후 변색이 급격하게 진행된 사례가 이를 뒷받침한다.

알루미늄 마감이 흠집에 취약하다는 이야기가 많다. 특히 플래토 모서리 부분의 아노다이징 처리가 쉽게 벗겨지는 것으로 확인되었다.

iFixit의 분석 결과에 따르면 플래토가 둥글지 않고 각지게 처리되어 구조적으로 아노다이징 벗겨짐에 대단히 취약하다고 한다. 매장에 전시된 기기들도 출시되고 1개월도 지나지 않았는데 플래토 측면에 흠집이 생긴 경우가 많이 보인다.

뒷면 유리 역시 긁힘에 상당히 취약한 모습을 보인다. # 이로 인해 맥세이프 액세서리 사용시 스크래치 및 자국이 매우 쉽게 발생한다.
