1. 개요

미국의 작가로, 사이언스 픽션과 판타지 소설을 주로 썼다. 소설 외에도 과학 칼럼 등의 논픽션을 집필하기도 했다. 페미니즘 SF로 유명한 작가이며, 대표작으론 로커스상, 네뷸러상, 스터전상을 휩쓴 원숭이 몸에 이식된 소녀의 이야기인 단편소설 〈사랑에 빠진 레이철〉과 네뷸러상을 수상한 마야 문명을 소재로 한 판타지 장편소설 《추락하는 여인》 등이 있다.
