4.1. 하단 스피커 위치 변경

지금까지 모든 iPhone은 모든 하단 스피커가 우측에 위치했지만, 17 Pro 시리즈만 왼쪽에 위치하도록 바뀌었다. 심지어 17 시리즈의 기본모델은 기존과 같이 전면 기준 하단 스피커가 우측에 위치한다.

이미 삼성전자에서도 갤럭시 노트20와 노트20 Ultra 이후 내장 S펜 지원 제품들은 하단 스피커를 좌측에 배치하여 비판이 있는데 내장 스타일러스 펜이 들어가지 않으며 물리 SIM도 측면으로 들어가는 iPhone은 이번 스피커 배치 변경에 대한 합당한 이유를 찾기 어렵다.

이 스피커 배치가 문제가 되는 이유는 오른손잡이의 경우 폰을 쓰다 가로로 볼 때 자연스럽게 왼쪽으로 눕혀 잡게 되는데, 그렇게 잡으면 손바닥에 스피커가 막힌다. 그렇다고 오른쪽으로 눕혀 잡으면 카메라 렌즈가 손에 직접 닿아 거슬리는 것은 물론이고, 렌즈도 오염되며, 더불어 iPhone의 경우 오른쪽으로 눕혀 잡으면 전원 버튼 및 셔터 버튼이 손에 닿기 때문에 그립감도 나빠지고 실수로 누르기도 쉽다. 게다가 카메라 섬의 면적도 넓어서 간섭되는 영역도 더 넓다. 이 문제는 크기가 비교적 작은 6.3인치 17 Pro 모델이 더 심하다.

4.2. 알루미늄 외장재 사용

iPhone이 지난 2-3년간 게임성능에서 밀리기 시작했다는 평가를 받은 이유 중 하나가 바로 방열설계 미비로 인한 낮은 유지전력이었다. 그런데 iPhone 17 Pro 시리즈는 베이퍼 챔버와 알루미늄 섀시 등을 이용해 방열능력을 개선했음에도 불구하고 이렇게 얻어진 방열능력의 거의 대부분 온도를 낮추는 데만 사용하고 유지전력을 올리는 데는 거의 사용하지 않아 고사양 이용자들을 중심으로 불만이 터져나오고 있다.# Pro라는 접미사와 프로급 성능이라는 수식어까지 붙여가며 대대적으로 성능 중심의 마케팅을 하고 있는 기종에서 이러한 스케줄링 정책을 고수하고 게임 모드 등의 옵션을 통해 선택권마저 주지 않는 것은 비판의 여지가 있다.

Pro 모델만 온도 제한을 특히 더 낮게 잡아 Pro Max와 큰 성능차가 나는 것 역시 비판받고 있는데, 이전 세대인 16 Pro 시리즈에서도 이러한 문제점이 있었지만 17 Pro 시리즈에서는 이 격차가 더욱 확대되었다. 결과적으로 iPhone 17 Pro는 베이퍼 챔버를 탑재했음에도 전력값이나 게임 성능 모두 더 낮은 등급 프로세서를 사용하고 흑연 패드로만 방열하는 iPhone 17 기본 모델과 큰 격차가 없거나 일부 조건에서는 더 떨어지는 결과를 보여준다.
