1. 개요
2011년 뉴저지에서 초연되고 2012년 브로드웨이로 옮겨간 뮤지컬 뉴시즈의 넘버. 앨런 멩컨이 작곡, 잭 펠드만이 작사하였으며 캐서린 플러머 역의 카라 린지와 데이브 제이콥스 역의 벤 팬크하우저, 잭 켈리 역의 제러미 조던, 레스 제이콥스 역의 루이스 그로소가 노래를 불렀다.작중에서 캐서린 플러머가 잭이 이끄는 파업을 보고 이를 기사로 써서 신문 배달 소년들의 파업을 돕고 자신의 기자로서의 지위를 높이고 싶어하지만 여성을 바라보는 사회의 시선 때문에 고민하던 중 결국 기사를 쓰기로 결정하는 노래이다. 이후 잭이 더 이상 신문 배달 소년들을 위험하게 만드는 것을 주저하자 데이브가 잭에게 퓰리처가 파업을 막아서려 드는 것은 이를 두려워하고 있기 때문이라고 말한다, 데이브는 잭에게 계속 나아가자고 설득하고, 모두 함께 결의를 다지는 장면에서 반복(reprise)되어 다시 한 번 등장한다.
작곡가 앨런 멩컨에 따르면 타자기 앞에 앉아있는 캐서린의 상황에 맞게 짧고 반복적인 리듬의 반주로 타자기의 소리를 표현하였다고 한다.

4. 여담
- 엄청난 양의 가사가 숨 쉴 틈 없이 쏟아지기 때문에 상당한 난이도를 갖는 곡이다. 사실 이 곡은 원래 데이브의 동생 레스가 2막의 두번째 신에서 부를 노래로 만들어졌지만 정작 노래를 만들고 보니 어떤 아역배우도 이 노래를 소화할 수 없을 것이라고 느껴 캐서린의 노래로 변경되었다. 캐서린 역의 오리지널 브로드웨이 캐스트인 카라 린지는 이 노래의 가장 어려운 점으로 다름아닌 숨쉬는 것을 꼽았다.
또한 카라 린지는 배우들이 모인 자리에서 자신의 넘버 Watch What Happens가 작품의 모든 넘버 중에 가장 어려운 것 같다고 이야기한 바 있다. 이 때 그 말을 들은 다른 남자배우들이 The World Will Know에서 부르는 고음 들어보지 않았냐고 묻자 춤추며 고음을 부르는 것도 힘들지만 Watch What Happens의 모든 가사를 정확히 말할 수 있겠냐고 답하였다. 이에 남자배우들이 도전을 신청하는 거냐며 단체로 Watch What Happens의 립싱크에 도전하는 해프닝도 있었다.
