1. 개요
2011년 뉴저지에서 초연되고 2012년 브로드웨이로 옮겨간 뮤지컬 뉴시즈의 넘버. 앨런 멩컨이 작곡, 잭 펠드만이 작사하였으며 크러치 역의 앤드류 키넌-볼저가 노래를 불렀다.작중에서 뉴스보이들이 함께 투쟁을 하던 중 크러치가 소년원으로 잡혀가고, 잭에게 소년원에서의 고통스러운 생활에 대해 편지를 쓰는 노래이다.
2011년 초연 당시에는 세트리스트에 포함되어 있지 않았으며 오리지널 브로드웨이 캐스트 스튜디오 레코딩에도 수록되어 있지 않다. 이 곡은 뉴시즈의 제작사 디즈니 시어트리컬 그룹의 회장인 토마스 슈마허의 요청에 의해 추가된 곡이다. 토마스 슈마허에 따르면 작중에서 크러치는 잭과 뉴스보이들의 행동의 원동력으로 작용하는 중요한 캐릭터인데 반해 1막의 끝에서 소년원으로 잡혀간 뒤 2막에서는 조금도 등장하지 않는 것이 바람직하지 않다고 느껴졌다고 한다. 따라서 작곡가 앨런 멩컨과 작사가 잭 펠드만에게 크러치를 위한 새로운 노래를 작곡해줄 것을 요청했고, 잭 펠드만의 아이디어로 소년원에서 크러치의 가장 친밀한 사람인 잭 켈리에게 편지를 쓰는 내용으로 기본적인 틀이 정해졌다. Letter from the Refuge 초안 제작 영상 이후 2014년 뉴시즈의 미국 투어부터 새로운 넘버로 추가되어 사용되었다.
