45화 - 기츠와 타이쿤의 격전을 메로와 함께 지켜본다. 둘의 싸움을 우스꽝스러운 짓이라고 평가하지만, 에이스가 진정한 창세의 신으로 각성해 세계를 리셋하자 매우 즐거워한다.

시점은 극장판 이전으로, 극장판 블루레이 특보에서 신살자의 힘으로 살해한 로키의 능력을 통해 X 기츠로 의태했다는 사실이 밝혀진다.

세계는 곧 멸망해. 그렇다면 그냥 당장 멸망시켜도 상관없잖아? 기왕이면 유쾌하고 즐겁게 멸망시키자고!

메로와 함께 세계멸망 게임을 진행한다. 쟈마토 세계수를 조이스틱으로 조종하여 다수의 폰 쟈마토 + 오파비니아 쟈마토 1마리를 소환해 가면라이더들을 상대하지만, 갑자기 난입한 우키요 에이스가 기츠 IX으로 변신해 쟈마토 세계수가 통째로 파괴당할 위기에 처한다.

메로는 기츠가 너무 강하다며 무슨 수로 상대하냐고 어이없어 하는데, 메라는 레어 캐릭터 = 에이스의 공략법이 보였다며 조이스틱 옆에 있는 리셋 버튼을 누른다. 그 순간 쟈마토 세계수가 분열되어 그 여파로 세계도 4등분당해 나뉘어지는데 쟈마토 세계수를 내부에서 파괴하고 있던 에이스도 그 영향으로 4명으로 갈라져버린다.

그렇게 에이스는 힘, 지혜, 운, 마음으로 분리되는데, 쓸모없는 스펙의 마음의 에이스를 제외한 3명을 오파비니아 쟈마토를 이용해 납치하고 "어떤 신이든 분열시켜버리면 식은 죽 먹기"라고 하면서 셋을 크로스 기츠 버클로 바꿔버린다. 메로는 나머지 에이스는 왜 안 쓰냐고 그에게 묻지만, 메라는 필요한 부분은 없는 남겨진 찌꺼기라 여기고 신경을 꺼버린다.

크로스 기츠 버클을 얻은 후, 분열시킨 세상을 다시 하나로 합쳐놓고 디자이어 신전에 있는 참가자 일행에게 세상을 멸망시켜 주겠다며 선전포고를 한다. 그런 큰일이 일어나면 미래인의 시대에 영향을 가지 않을까 걱정은 하지 말라는 말도 같이 하는데, 미래 세계의 지구는 쟈마토의 원본이 되는 정체불명의 식물에 의해 멸망했고 미래인들은 자신들을 데이터로 바꿔 우주공간에서 생활한다고 언급한다. 그러니 예정되었던 세계멸망이 더 빨라질 뿐, 미래 시대엔 그리 큰 영향은 없을 것이라고 한다.

그의 목적은 딱히 없고 그저 즐기고 재미를 느끼기 위해 이런 짓들을 벌인다고 이야기한다. 츠무리의 언급으론, 신이나 신화에 관련된 인물을 죽이며 그냥 전승으로 만들어버린 자이자 갓 킬러라고 불리던 최악의 지명수배범이라고 한다.[5] 에이스 역시 창세의 신이기에 표적이 되었던 것으로 보인다. 선전포고가 끝난 후 쟈마토를 세상에 다시 뿌리며 본인이 직접 참전한다.

아즈마 미치나가는 그의 앞을 막아서지만, 3명의 에이스를 재료로 얻은 X 기츠는 밀리지 않았다. 그러다 무인 소드 타이쿤이 버파와 합류해 교전하지만, 트릭키한 공격과 움직임으로 둘을 밀어붙인다.[6] 버파와 타이쿤을 동시에 상대하며 버파를 먼져 드러눕게 만들고, 타이쿤을 상대로 무기까지 일부러 버리며 도발하는 등 여유를 부린다. 이제 끝낸다며 무기를 들고 타이쿤을 공격하나, 버파의 좀비 스트라이크로 버서클로의 에너지 체로 공격이 막히고, 에너지체가 사라지는 순간에 맞춰 타이쿤의 무인 소드의 필살기가 작렬하지만 연기가 조금 날릴 뿐 타격은 없었다. 타이쿤을 내던져 필살기를 맞춰 변신을 해제시키고, 버파의 변신도 해제시킨다.

이 세계도 다른 곳과 똑같이 덧없이 사라진다고 웃다가, 마음의 에이스가 난입하여 기츠 매그넘 폼으로 변신해서 덤비는 걸 보게 된다. 물론 모든 힘을 잃은 에이스가 상대가 될 리가 없었고, 가볍게 때려눕히며 힘도 전부 뺏긴 주제에 왜 덤비냐 묻는데, 자신에겐 가장 중요한 것(마음의 힘)이 남아있다고 일어서는 에이스를 보며 살짝 당황하다가 그를 밀쳐 쓰러뜨린다. 그리고 게임의 끝을 선언하며 세계를 끝장내기 위해 다크니스 부스트 타임을 발동, X 기츠 빅토리로 쟈마토 세계수의 힘을 폭등시켜 기어코 지구를 뒤엎어버리고 사실상 멸망시키고 만다. 미래인들의 세계에도 영향이 있었냐고 방송으로 조롱하는 것은 덤.

메로와 함께 쟈마토 세계수로 돌아와 역사서를 보면서 이번에는 어느 신화를 노려볼 지 고르고 있다가 기적적으로 살아남은 에이스가 쳐들어와 기츠 원네스로 변신한 그와 교전한다. 처음엔 잘 밀어붙이다가 시간이 끌릴수록 점점 파워 업하는 에이스에게 압도당하자 기츠의 힘을 뺏었는데도 어째서 기츠를 이길 수 없냐며 당황하는데, 사람의 강함은 한 사람의 능력만으로 정해지는 것이 아니며, 모두가 소망하는만큼, 마음이 결집하는만큼 계속 강해질 수 있다는 에이스의 답변이 돌아온다.[7] 그리고 그 시점에선 X 기츠의 엄청난 힘으로도 기츠 원네스의 주먹, 즉 평타조차 감당할 수 없을만큼 두 라이더 간의 격차가 벌어진 뒤였다. 결국 이에 실망한 메로가 기츠 원네스에게 점점 밀리는 메라가 깬다며, 조이스틱을 이용해 쟈마토 세계수의 힘으로 메라를 거대화시키고는 혼자 떠나버린다.[8] 물론 썩어도 신살자답게 그 체급 차이를 살려 기츠 원네스에게 역공을 가하고 X 기츠 스트라이크로 기츠 원네스를 벽에 쳐박아버리는 쾌거를 이루나, 원네스 카드에 들어가있던 버파, 타이쿤, 나고, 펑크잭, 케이로우, 로포가 나와 에이스를 부축한다. 라이더들이 미사일 마냥 던진 기츠에게 맞고[9] 충격에 의해 쟈마토 세계수 위에서 떨어지며[10] 원네스 빅토리에 꿰뚫리고, 그것도 모자라 쟈마토 세계수로 도로 걷어차이는 바람에 그대로 날아가서 파괴된다. 이후 메로를 제압시킨 츠무리가 메라와 메로가 미래로 강제 송환되었다고 언급한다.[11]

4. 평가

이유 따윈 없어. 그냥 즐거우니까 하는 거야![12]

작중 최대의 이유없는 악의이자 역귀 그 자체. 단순히 지금까지 벌여온 악행이나 윤리 의식까지 모두 포함하면 그 오디언스 중에서도 가장 최악의 인간상으로 평가받는 그 스에루와 네메루에 버금가는 수준이거나, 그 이상의 빌런이다.[13]

미래의 지명수배범이라는 점에서 팬들에게 상당한 흥미와 관심을 한 몸에 받았던 캐릭터이기도 하다. 애초에 디자이어 그랑프리를 시청하는 오디언스들의 대부분이 너무 과도하게 자신들의 즐거움만을 추구한 나머지 인간성과 윤리가 결여되고 만 쾌락주의자들인데, 그런 오디언스들조차 치를 떠는 수준의 악질 범죄자로 손꼽힐 정도면 얼마나 위험한 캐릭터이겠느냐는 것이 주된 이유.

실제로 영화 개봉 후 드러난 메라의 실체는 자신의 쾌락만을 위해 세계를 수없이 멸망시킨 극도의 위험분자였고, 말 그대로 처음부터 끝까지 자신들의 쾌락을 채우기 위해서라면 (본인들 기준으로) 이미 머나먼 과거에 멸망해버린 세계 따윈 아무래도 상관없다는 식의 책임감이라곤 개나 줘버린 태도로 일관하다가 파멸했다.

5. 기타

이름의 유래는 '우울함'을 뜻하는 멜랑꼴리(メランコリー). 그러나 정작 하나도 우울해보이지 않는 비주얼로, 되려 우스꽝스런 광대 같다. 한국판에서는 극장판 개봉을 안 하려고 그랬는지 현지화명이 그냥 의문의 라이더 1이라 나온다.

변신 포즈는 X 기츠 버클을 장착한 뒤 양 손을 교차하고 좌우로 펼치고, 양 손가락을 튕기며 [14] 변신을 외치고 리볼브 온과 함께 버클을 조작한다.

기츠 세계관의 미래인들 중에 유일하게 디자이어 드라이버를 사용해 변신한다. 미래인들의 신체는 과거인과 다르고, 정해진 외형도 없기 때문에 질리언 드라이버나 비전 드라이버, 레이저 레이즈 라이저처럼 신체를 구성하는 입자 자체를 슈트로 변신시킨다.

설정집에 의하면, 영화 시점의 이전인 45화에서 X 기츠의 힘이 없었음에도 X 기츠의 모습으로 나왔던 것은, 과거 북유럽 신화의 신중 1명인 로키를 죽이고 빼앗은 변신 능력으로 생김새만 X 기츠의 모습으로 나타났기 때문이었다.[15] 거기다가 메라는 과거 헬헤임으로부터 지구를 지켜내면서 우주의 신이 된 가면라이더 가이무 또한 노리고 있었다는 것이 언급되었다.[16]

[1] 변신체만 등장.[2] 1980년 1월 28일생 코미디언.[3] 대원방송, 특촬물 첫 출연이다.[4] 극장판 티저에서는 갓 킬러지만, 작중에서는 신살자(神殺し/카미고로시)로 나왔다.[5] 마블의 고르는 원래 선한 존재였고 독실한 신도였으나, 굳게 믿어왔던 신에게 신앙심을 배신당하고, 그 신 때문에 하나 남은 가족까지 잃어 '신'이라는 집단 전체에 대한 복수심을 품고 흑화해 신 도살자가 된것이지만, 메라는 복수심이고 사연이고 그런 것 없이 오로지 재미만을 위해 신 죽이기를 하고 다닌 것이다.[6] 기츠 버스터를 던져 둘의 뒤에 있는 상자에 박고, 레이징 소드로 방아쇠로 당겨 타이쿤을 사격하는 등의 방식을 보였다.[7] 이 말은 바꿔 말하면 메라가 빼앗은 건 그저 기츠라는 가면라이더의 힘에 한정될 뿐, 그 힘을 극대화하고 더욱 성장시킬 수 있는 에이스의 마음과 본질에는 영향을 끼치지 못했다는 소리다. 그리고 이것을 증명하듯 얼마 안 가 메라는 메로에게 배신당해 버려지고 혼자서 날뛰어야만 하는 처지에 이르렀지만 에이스는 부활한 동료들이 그의 등을 밀어주며 더욱 강해진 상태로 메라를 쓰러뜨리는 진풍경이 연출되었다.[8] 이 때 메로에게 무슨 짓이냐는 듯이 따진 건 덤. 메로는 이미 메라에게 질렸는지 거대해지면 이기지 않겠느냐며 조롱하고는 뒤도 안 돌아보고 가버렸다.[9] 미치나가, 케이와, 네온이 던졌다. 미치나가는 힘의 에이스랑 있을 때 직접 당했으며(...) 다른 둘도 각각의 에이스랑 있으면서 고생한 만큼 앙갚음 한듯하다.[10] 이 장면은 메라가 흡수한 힘, 지혜, 운과 연관이 있는데 버파, 타이쿤, 냐고가 힘껏 던진 기츠에게 얻어맞고 도중 마음의 에이스가 임기응변(지혜)으로 기둥과 벽을 발판삼아 수차례 공격을 날렸으며 마지막으로 계속 얻어맞은 메라가 헤롱거리는 사이 운나쁘게도 발밑의 돌을 밟고 넘어지는 바람에 이어지는 공격에 대응하지 못했다.[11] 메로는 혼자 빠져나와 쟈마토 세계수 째로 두 기츠를 폭파시키려는 걸 츠무리가 개입해서 막았지만, 메라는 쟈마토 세계수에 쳐박혀서 함께 터졌으므로 남매인 에이스와 츠무리의 손에 의해 동시에 처리되었다고도 볼 수 있다.[12] 아즈마 미치나가가 왜 이런 짓을 하느냐고 묻자 답한 말로서, 사실상 메라의 행동 원리를 상징하는 발언이라고 볼 수 있다. 미치나가도 이 대답을 듣고는 더 이상 대화할 가치도 없다 여겼는지 곧바로 변신하여 메라에게 맞선다.[13] 그 스에루도 결국 자기 입맛대로 군 악역이긴 하지만 최소한 오디언스를 위해 DGP를 존속시킨다는 당위성은 있었는데, 메라는 그런 것도 없이 그저 순수하게 자기 재미만을 위해 움직였다.[14] 똑같이 손가락을 튕기는 변신 포즈를 가진 에이스나 진이 각각 오른손, 왼손을 튕기는 것과는 달리 양 손가락을 동시에 튕긴다.[15] 즉 서순을 따지자면 이 때 X 기츠라는 형태를 굳힌 다음 이후 힘을 얻고 그 형태로 변한 셈.[16] 실제로 코우타가 절대로 약하진 않지만 메가 헥스의 단말이나 마쟈 같은 고스펙의 강적을 상대로는 밀렸던 것처럼 무적은 아니란 사실을 보여줬던만큼, 메라 입장에선 여러모로 탐나는 목표였을 것이다.
