2. 상세
G-funk를 대표하는 명곡 중 하나이다. 2년 전에 나온 Nuthin' but a ‘G’ Thang과 끝없이 비교되는 곡인데, 성적 자체는 비슷하지만[3] 일반적으로는 그쪽의 평가가 더 높다.[4] 가사는 워렌 G의 물건을 훔치고, 강도짓을 하는 등 범죄를 저지르는 동네 갱스터들을 네이트 독이 처단하는 내용으로, Regulate라는 제목의 뜻도 범죄를 규제한다는 것에서 유래되었다. 또한, 범죄를 저지르는 자들을 처단하고 여자들과 파티를 다닌다는 스토리라인이 있는 곡으로, Stan과 함께 역사상 가장 성공한 스토리텔링 힙합 트랙으로 꼽힌다.[5]곡의 구조도 매우 독특한데, 일반적으로 한 사람이 하나의 벌스를 맡고 훅이 존재하는 다른 힙합 트랙들과 달리 이 노래는 워렌 G와 네이트 독이 이야기를 주고받듯 몇 구절을 번갈아가며 내뱉는 형태이고, 훅도 없다.[6] 스토리의 내용도 갱스터들에게 털리는 워렌 G와 그런 워렌 G를 구하러 가는 네이트 독 각자의 입장에서 진행되므로 참신하다는 평이 많다. 또한 이러한 스토리를 이야기하듯이 풀어내고, 워렌 G 본인이 스스로 프로듀싱한, 훵크 음악과 팝 음악의 요소를 차용한 비트도 좋은 평을 받아 90년대를 대표하는 히트곡 중 하나로 꼽힌다. 오죽하면 이 노래가 너무 히트쳐서 워렌 G를 원 히트 원더로 생각하는 경우조차 있을 정도.[7]

4. 차트 성적
1990년대 힙합 트랙 중 가장 높은 성적을 거둔 몇 안 되는 곡들 중 하나로, 빌보드 핫 100 최고순위 2위를 차지하고 1994년 빌보드 핫 100 연말 차트 22위를 차지하는 등 큰 히트를 거두었다. 다만, 일반적인 힙합 트랙들과 달리 팝의 성향이 매우 강한 편으로, 당시 클럽에서 굉장히 많이 틀어주는 곡 중 하나였다. 이러한 점 때문인지 힙합에 관심이 없는 사람들 중에서도 90년대를 살았다면 알 확률이 높은 곡이다.심지어 2위 당시 1위곡이 역대급 메가히트곡인 I Swear였으므로 실제로 2위를 하던 당시에는 1위를 할 정도의 인기였다는 것이 중론이다.
