1. 개요

티어스 포 피어스의 2집 Songs from the Big Chair 앨범의 4번째 트랙이자 7번째 싱글.

2. 상세

1983년에 작곡되었고 밴드의 1983년 후반 투어 중에 처음으로 공개적으로 공연되었다. 오자발은 그것을 토킹 헤즈의 사운드를 모방하려는 실패한 시도로 설명한다 . 1984년 초, 밴드는 스튜디오에 들어가 Jeremy Green을 프로듀서로 하여 다음 싱글로 녹음했다. 오자발은 이 버전이 Weather Report의 " Teen Town "과 유사한 드럼 패턴으로 "엄청나게 정교하고 흥미롭다"고 생각했지만 머큐리 레코드 회사는 그것을 싫어했다. 그 후 밴드의 이전 프로듀서인 크리스 휴즈가 다시 합류했고 노래는 다시 녹음되어 마침내 1984년 8월에 싱글로 발매되었다.

이 노래는 두 가지 아이디어에서 비롯되었다. 하나는 어머니들이 자녀들에게 얼굴을 찌푸리는 것에 대해 하는 말이다. 바람이 불면 아이가 그렇게 지낼 거라고 불평을 부리는 모습 에서와, 또 다른 아이디어는 레이몬드 브릭스의 반핵 만화 '바람이 불면'에서 영감을 받았다.

2.1. 미국 출시

미국에서는 Everybody Wants to Rule the World 가 Songs from the Big Chair LP의 첫 싱글로 발매 되었기 때문에 "Mothers Talk"는 결국 1986년 4월 네 번째이자 마지막 싱글로 발매되어 빌보드 핫 싱글 차트에서 27위를 기록했다. "리믹스"라는 라벨이 붙어 있지만, 이 버전은 실제로는 Big Chair 투어가 끝난 후 밴드가 직접 재녹음한 것이다. 수상 경력에 빛나는 프로듀서 밥 클리어마운틴 이 믹싱을 맡았고 , 그는 밴드의 다음 앨범 믹싱을 함께 담당했다. 다른 픽처 슬리브 외에도, 이 싱글에는 로버트 와이엇의 "Sea Song"을 커버한 곡 이 B면으로 수록되었다[1] 이 버전은 캐나다 와 일본 에서도 동시에 발매되었다.
