3. 배경

• 앨범의 포문을 여는 곡으로 미국의 음반 산업을 공격하는 내용이 담겨있다. 코건은 인터뷰에서 인디 음악계와 미디어의 관계에 대한 곡으로, 특히 곡의 2절은 그 관계의 건강하지 못한 모습을 잘 보여준다고 밝혔다.*
• 앨범에 수록된 곡들 중 마지막으로 녹음을 끝낸 곡이라고 한다. 펑키하고 공격적인 기타 리프로 시작하며 특유의 강렬한 디스토션 사운드가 강조되어 반항적이고 날카로운 분위기를 자아낸다.
• 곡의 제목 체럽(Cherub)은 천사를 뜻하며 순수함과 이상주의가 현실 속 상업주의와 충돌하는 느낌을 상징한다고 해석된다.
• 레이블은 Today를 리드 싱글로 발매하길 원했으나 코건은 Cherub Rock을 먼저 발매해야 한다고 주장했다.
