1. 개요

독일 헤센주 카셀현 풀다 군에 위치하고 있는 도시이다.

냉전기에는 군사적 요충지로 3차 세계대전 발발시 소련군의 주요 예상 공격로로 여겨졌다. 이곳을 장악하면 당시 서독의 주요 도시인 프랑크푸르트와 유럽 주둔 미군의 중심지인 람슈타인 공군기지가 지척이며 프랑스, 베네룩스 등 서유럽 지역으로 나아갈 수 있는 매우 중요한 교통 거점이었다. 그래서 이 진격로를 두고 풀다 갭(Fulda gap)이라는 용어도 있었다.

핵폭발 뒤 최후의 아이들에서도 주인공 꼬마의 조부모님이 사는 마을인 '쉐벤보른'의 근처 대도시로 언급되며, 제3차 세계대전 당일 핵폭격을 당한다.

장거리 철도의 분기점인 풀다역이 이곳에 있다.

이 곳의 이름을 따서 설립된 풀다 타이어가 설립되어 이어져오고 있다.
