1. 개요

영국의 애시드 재즈 밴드. 리더 블루이(Jean-Paul 'Bluey' Maunick)를 주축으로 1979년 결성됐고 여러 객원멤버들이 거쳐갔다. 원래는 블루이가 앨범마다 멤버를 꾸려나가는 프로젝트성 밴드였으나 최근에는 고정멤버를 두고 활동하고 있다.

2. 음악적 특징

애시드 재즈계의 기둥. 자미로콰이가 디스코와 락에, 브랜드 뉴 헤비스가 펑크(Funk)에 가까운 스타일이라면 인코그니토는 펑크에 R&B가 결합된 느낌이 강하다. 대규모 인원에서 비롯하는 꽉 찬 금관악기 사운드가 강조되는 곡들이 많다. 최근 들어 느린 템포의 발라드곡은 대부분 R&B 특유의 기교가 많이 섞인 창법으로 소화하고 있다.

첫 정규 앨범. 이름에서도 알 수 있듯이, 애시드 재즈 등장 직전 재즈 펑크[1]의 면모가 잘 드러나는 앨범이다. 상당히 담백한 사운드가 특징.

2011년 4월 첫 단독 내한공연을 펼쳤고, 이듬해인 2012년에는 불과 1년만에 다시 내한해 국내 애시드 재즈팬들을 즐겁게 해줬다. 국내에서 애시드 재즈가 비주류 장르임을 감안하면 상당히 이례적이다.

2013년에 블루이가 솔로앨범을 발표했다. 인코그니토에서는 듣기 힘든 그의 목소리를 들을 수 있다.

[1] 1970년대 ~ 1980년대에 나타난, 아직 퓨전 재즈/포스트 디스코적인 면을 간직하고 있는 재즈. 샤카탁, 조지 벤슨, 로이 에어스, 허비 행콕 등이 유명하며, 훗날 영국의 자일스 페터슨이 Acid Jazz 레이블을 창립하며 이러한 사운드를 애시드 재즈라는 장르로써 취합하게 된다.[2] 원곡 스티비 원더.[3] 무료 바이닐 청음 공간. 현대카드 소지자에 한해 입장 가능하다.[4] 앨범 제목 또한 해당 곡에서 따왔다.
