네이버 커넥트재단은 네이버의 공익목적 교육사업을 투명하고 전문적으로 시행하기 위해 네이버가 2011년 설립한 비영리 기관입니다.

소프트웨어가 산업의 중심이 되는 미래에는 생애 전반에 걸쳐 지속적인 배움이 필요합니다. 누구나 경제적 부담없이 필요한 최신 기술을 원하는 시기에 배울 수 있도록, 교육으로 다가올 미래를 준비합니다.

네이버 커넥트재단

네이버 커넥트재단은 교육 혁신과 교육 민주화를 통해 세상을 변화시키는 사회적 가치를 실현하고자 네이버에 의해 2011년에 설립되었다.

온라인 강의 형태로 제공하고 있다. 코로나 이전까지만 해도 SEF라는 컨퍼런스는 오프라인으로 진행하였지만, 2020년부터 그마저도 온라인으로 전환하여 서비스를 제공하고 있다.

2. 역사

2011년 10월 재단법인 NHN NEXT를 설립했다.

2012년 8월 교육부로부터 교육 기부기관 인증을 받았다.

2013년 3월 NHN NEXT 1기생을 모집하고 개교하였다.

NHN[1] 이 향후 10년간 1000억원을 투자한다고 밝히며 개교 첫해 입학생들에게 파격적인 조건을 내걸며 고교졸업자/대학생/대학원생 들을 대거 모집했다. NEXT에서 내건 조건은 전액 장학금/노트북/개인학습공간 지원 및 각종 혜택 등으로 몸만 오세요 수준의 지원을 약속했다. 비인가 아카데미로서의 가치는 이 학교를 수료한 졸업생이 사회에서 얼마나 선방하느냐에 따라 학교의 가치가 올라가기 때문에 교수진부터 학생까지 상당히 까다롭고 우수한 학생들 위주로 뽑으려고 애를 썼다. 개교당시 지원설명에는 먼저 고등학교 졸업 학력이면 누구나 지원 가능, 학업계획서는 분량의 제한이 없음, 원서 접수시 자신을 어필할 서류제출이 무제한 및 까다로운 면접 등 아무나 입학시켜주지 않는다는 분위기가 강했다.

당시 NEXT 입시 관련한 정보는 다음과 같았다.

- 1인당 2시간(!!) 정도 소요.[2]
- 기본적으로 절대평가이고 또 교과부의 정식 인가를 받지 않았기 때문에 입학 정원[3] 을 다 채울 필요 없다. 즉 경쟁률 자체가 의미가 없다.[4]
- 입학 후 에도 까다로운 교육과정을 밟게 되는데, 먼저 2개의 트랙[5]을 전공해야 하고 또 그 전공 커리큘럼이 매우 어렵다. 심지어 기말고사 난이도가 카이스트 전산학 4학년 기말고사와 맞먹는다는 풍문이 있다. 그 까다로운 과정을 끝내면 6개월간 현장 인턴쉽이 있고, 인턴쉽 과정이 끝나면 비로소 졸업 할 수 있다.
- 졸업하면 경력 2년차 개발자의 실력이 된다고 한다. 그리고 차기 넥스트 인들을 위한 소프트웨어 창의체험프로그램 이나 오픈캠퍼스 그리고 소프트웨어 인문특강 등이 있다.

2015년 9월 사명을 'NHN NEXT'에서 '커넥트'로 변경하였다.

2020년 6월 사명을 '커넥트'에서 '네이버 커넥트'로 변경하였다.

2025년 5월과 12월에는 쥬니어네이버와 쥬니버스쿨이 서비스를 종료하였다.

3. 사건 사고

설립 이후 2년 사이에 1대, 2대 학교장이 갑작스럽게 사임하고, 학교 폐쇄에 대한 설왕설래가 오갔다. 입학 당시 100여명의 정원이었는데 절반 정도의 학생들이 휴학했다. 2015년에는 모집 인원을 40 여명으로 줄였다. 이전에는 참가자의 역량보다 면접이나 특이성으로 입학을 판별하는 기준이 많았지만 이후 역량 위주 평가로 바뀌어 CS 지식과 성적 증명서를 요구하고 있다.

우수한 교수진, 개인용 장비 제공 및 취업 연계를 지원했기 때문에 학생들이 2년간 NHN의 교육과정을 수료하면서 학교의 위상을 높일거라고 예상했다. # 그러나 네이버 커넥트재단이 대학교 같은 학벌로 인정 받을 수 있는 교육기관은 아니기 때문에 학생들이 40% 이상 휴학하거나 학교를 아예 안 나오는 등 불성실한 태도를 보이며 학교의 운영이 점차 기울었다.

일각에서는 초기에 대대적으로 학생들을 모집할 때는 新인재양성이라고 표방한 것이 무색하게 지금의 방침은 학교는 커녕 이름만 학교이고 기업 연수원의 형태로 바뀌고 있는게 아니냐는 시선이 강했다. 실제로 NEXT 교수들의 직함도 연구원 으로 바뀌고 NEXT 재학생들이 학교의 운영에 반발하며 1인 시위를 열었다.관련뉴스

4. 이후 근황

NHN NEXT 교수들이 나와서 코드스쿼드의 마스터즈코스, NEXTSTEP과 우아한테크코스 등의 정신적 후신 교육기관들을 설립했다.

NHN NEXT는 네이버 커넥트재단으로 바뀌고 국비지원교육 캠프로 운영되고 있다.
