2023년 9월, 시아는 10번째 정규 앨범 Reasonable Woman을 발표한뒤 리드 싱글 "Gimme Love"를 발매했고, 같은 달에 카일리 미노그는 그녀의 16번째 정규 앨범인 Tension을 발매하여 비평가들의 찬사를 받았다. 시아와 카일리는 이전에 12번째 정규 앨범 Kiss Me Once에서 공동 작업한 적이 있으며, 시아 임원은 앨범을 프로듀싱하고 두 곡을 공동 작곡했다. "Dance Alone"은 2024년 1월 말 라스베이거스 미노그 레지던시에서 공연을 앞두고 처음으로 예고되었다. 이후 2월 1일 소셜 미디어를 통해 발표되었고 2월 7일 리릭비디오와 함께 공개되었다.
