Paul McCartney - Once Upon A Long Ago

1. 개요

1987년 발매된 폴 매카트니의 컴필레이션 앨범. 비틀즈 해체 이후 솔로 시절 히트곡을 모았으며, 'Once Upon a Long Ago'라는 신곡이 수록되어 있다.[1]

폴 매카트니의 1980년대 커리어는 Tug of War의 대박으로 순조롭게 시작됐지만, 후속작 Pipes of Peace가 조금 아쉬운 성적을 거둔 것에 이어 Give My Regards to Broad Street의 실패, 야심작이었던 Press to Play의 쪽박으로 내리막길을 걷고 있었다. 그런 80년대도 어언 후반으로 접어드는 1987년, 실패의 연속이던 폴 입장에서는 그동안의 솔로 커리어를 돌아보며 나름대로 숨을 좀 고를 필요가 있었고 그 일환으로 발매된 앨범이 바로 본작이라 할 수 있다.

영국반과 미국반에 수록곡 차이가 조금 있는데, 이는 폴 매카트니의 곡들 중 영국과 미국에서 히트한 노래가 조금씩 다르기 때문이다. 여러모로 Wings Greatest의 확장판 같은 베스트 앨범이라 할 수 있다. 그러나 히트곡에 폴 매카트니의 음악적 정수가 담긴 곡들을 추가로 담아 영국에서는 차트 2위까지 올랐으나, 미국에서는 62위를 기록하며 여전히 차트 성적이 신통치 않았다.

LP 발매 당시에는 2LP로 발매되었으나, CD 포맷으로 나오면서 한장으로 나오게 된다. 그러나 영국반의 경우 재생시간 문제로 CD 버전에서 잘려나간 곡이 있다.
