"홍콩에서 유일하게 엘리베이터가 없는 법원이죠. 2층으로 올라가는 계단을 올라가면 문득 깨달음이 느껴집니다. 각 법정 밖의 대기 로비는 일렬로 유리창을 마주하고 있습니다. 채광도 좋고, 조명 없이도 로비를 밝힐 수 있어요. 투명성 덕분에 법원은 덜 우울하고 억압적이지 않게 느껴지고, 덜 폐쇄적인 느낌을 갖게 됩니다. 이것이 사법 시스템에 대한 정부의 견해를 반영한다고 믿고 있습니다."

3.1. 이소룡 사망사건

1973년 9월 3일, 이소룡의 사망 원인 심리가 열렸다. 전후 총 7일간의 심리, 중간 12일간의 휴정 기간을 포함해 동쯔광(由董梓光) 판사가 주재하고, 정부의 검사와 3명의 배심원이 심리를 이끌었고, 법정에 출두하여 증언한 증인은 연달, 조문회, 정호, 이충천, 주박회 의사, 구급대원 등 총 10여 명이었다.

법원은 증인과 전문가와 부검의를 소환한 후, 법의관 예즈펑, 롱퍼드 의사, 우셴팅 의사, 그리고 런던 대학 법의학 로널드 티 리에 교수를 비롯한 보험사, 각 당사자의 변호사 대표가 법정에서 질문하고 몇몇 미국 의사들의 서면 보고서를 주고받을 수 있게 했다.

재판 첫 이틀간 추엔완 지방법원은 인산인해였고, 법정 안의 방청석 역시 빈자리가 없었으나 휴정 후 재개장하자 그 사이 사랑하는 아내에게 불성실하였다는 사실이 수면위로 드러나는 등 한동안 대부분의 홍콩인의 비난을 받으며 군중은 점차 흩어졌고, 5일 후의 판결일까지 법정 내 공공란에도 기자 몇 명만 남았다.

9월 24일, 법원 내 사망원인재판소는 이소룡이 사고로 사망했으며 자살하거나 살해할 가능성은 없다고 판결했다. 의학적 원인은 이소룡이 임종 전에 복용한 각종 약물 중 특정 성분이 포함되어 과도한 뇌부종(cerebral edema)으로 사망을 유발하여 사망했으며 대마초와는 관련이 없다고 판결했다. 이때 이소룡의 체내에서 소량의 대마초가 검출되었는데 의문을 정면으로 반박한 것이다.

여담으로 이 사태로 홍콩 내 언론에 따르면 싱가포르가 쌍절봉을 금지무기로 분류했다고 보도했으며, 어떤 문헌에는 나중에 미국의 몇몇 큰 주들은 뉴욕처럼 이미 쌍절봉을 불법무기로 지정하는 입법을 시작했다고 한다.#
