1. 스웨덴의 멜로딕 데스 메탈 / 프로그레시브 메탈 밴드
Scar Symmetry2004년 결성된 스웨덴의 메탈 밴드로, 현재 Nuclear Blast 소속이다. 음악적으로는 멜로딕 데스 메탈에 한정하기 어려울 정도로 Sci-Fi에 관련된 공상과학 요소를 표현하는 데 있어서 도가 튼 밴드. 멤버들은 모두 밴드 결성 이전에 이미 유명한 테크니션으로 알려진 세션들이었다. 위와 같은 이유로 데뷔 당시부터 동종업계 종사자들이 강추하는 밴드로 유명하며, 또한 보컬리스트 크리스티안의 극과 극을 달리는 보컬로 유명세를 얻었다 [1]
그런데 2008년 보컬 크리스티안 엘베스탐(Christian Älvestam)이 탈퇴하고, 2명의 보컬을 새로 영입하여 4집 Dark Matter Dimensions부터 활동하고 있다. 앨범명과 곡명을 과학자스럽게 짓고 가사에 공상 과학 요소를 넣는 것으로도 알려져 있었는데, 이게 최근 6집 앨범에서 아예 신인류의 맵핑에 관한 컨셉을 차용하면서 더욱 부각되고 있다. 많은 사람들이 이들의 명반으로 3집 Holographic Universe를 꼽으나, 정작 빌보드에서는 5집이 11위로 커리어하이를 기록하였다.
나이트위시의 경우에서처럼 크리스티안이 탈퇴한 후 팬들 사이에서 신규 보컬을 탐탁치 않아하는 반응이 많았으나, 5집에서 예상한 것 이상의 실력을 보여주자 골수 크리스천 팬을 제외한 팬들은 불만 없이 받아들이고 있다.
Drakedog의 DD시리즈에 종종 이들의 곡이 BGM으로 사용된다. 유튜브에서 해당 곡을 찾아보면 용개 댓글이 달려있는 것을 볼 수 있다. DD8에는 Reborn, DD10 오프닝으로 The Anomaly가 사용되었다.
2013년 8월 7일 스카 시메트리 공식 페이스북을 통해 요나스 셸그렌이 탈퇴한다는 사실을 발표했다(!!)

| It is with heavy hearts that we finally make it official: Jonas has decided to leave Scar Symmetry. Due to scheduling conflicts with his studio work and his other bands - Raubtier and Bourbon Boys - Jonas hasn't been able to perform live with Scar Symmetry for the past one and a half years, and from what he has told us, he will not be able to in the foreseeable future either. Back in 2004, Henrik and I got to know Jonas when recording with our previous band in his studio. We quickly became friends, and it was inevitable that soon enough, we would start talking about forming a new band together. It has been an amazing journey since, making the music of our dreams come to life on five albums, being picked up by the legendary Nuclear Blast Records and touring all over Europe and North America. We won't bring in an offical replacement, instead we'll continue as a 5-piece, sometimes bringing in a session guitar player for live shows - just as we effectively have been doing it since Jonas quit touring with us. This Friday, we'll perform at UK's Bloodstock festival which marks the end of the touring cycle for 'The Unseen Empire'. Next up is finalizing the songwriting for our next recording project, which will be our most ambititous yet!
