In the dawn of the colonization of terran space the vast majority of worlds beyond the sphere of influence of the three main Terran factions, remained unexplored for a long time due to cost and technological limitations or in those where small colonies of intrepid explorers had managed to settle, in a state of lawlessness and anarchy. Despite 92% of its surface being covered by a shallow ocean, the necessity and expansionist desires of its early inhabitants were not hindered by it. Leveraging great technique and ingenuity, the Sidnadian colonies gradually reclaimed extensive stretches of land from the omnipresent sea and, when needed, constructed enormous floating platforms upon which many of their main cities were built. Drynallard, the largest and most prosperous of them all, was constructed on one of these floating platforms over the Namók crater basin lake, with the aim of extracting the high concentrations of vespene gas found beneath its bed. Although not exempt from the internecine struggles that sooner or later end up affecting all human societies, Sidna's remote location allowed it to stay out of the great conflicts between the main militaristic powers of the sector for a long time. Nevertheless, their efforts to conceal what was happening proved futile in the end, as numerous ships loaded with refugees began arriving from some of the closest star systems. The Brontes system, for instance, located a mere 6 parsecs away, whose primary inhabited planet had recently been invaded and devastated not by one, but by two hostile alien races at odds with each other, was one of the main sources of such refugees. Faced with such sudden and massive migratory influx, the rulers of Drynallard saw an opportunity to capitalize on the instability and gain some of the influence and power that the war was taking away from their neighbors. Therefore, individuals among the migrant population who had intellectual value to contribute to the development of the Sidnadian Federation would be welcomed and assimilated into its institutions. In this way, renowned scientists and experienced military personnel were the first to benefit from this decision. As for the rest, the majority were called upon to join the ranks of the modest Federation army, while others... Those who were too young, elderly, or sick, were sent to the remote regions of the planet and, with no more compensation than food and shelter, performed forced labor until the end of their days. As a result of this newfound abundance of workforce and skilled minds, Sidna's growing prosperity attracted the attention of the Terran Confederacy. With the intention of using the planet as an outpost to monitor the chaotic situation in the adjacent systems, the Confederacy dispatched a powerful expeditionary force led by the battleship Norad I, to persuade the inhabitants of that independent world through intimidation or, if necessary, to subjugate them through fire and devastation. However, the latter would not be necessary, as the fleet positioned itself in a stationary orbit over the Namok crater, and the Sidnadians understood the immense disparity between their forces and those of the Terran Confederacy. The Sidnadian authority established a communication link with the Norad I and ceremoniously welcomed the Confederacy delegation, thus unconditionally submitting to the power of Tarsonis without firing a single shot. Such action quickly generated discontent in numerous sectors, and some of the main provinces attempted to declare their independence from the Sidnadian Federation in order to negotiate their own terms with the Terran Confederacy. Among them, the most relevant and ultimately leading the rest was the nation of Ganahant. It was, after Drynallard, the most economically prosperous and militarily powerful nation on the planet. The Confederate commanders, lacking interest in squandering their own forces in what they considered an insignificant conflict, pressured Drynallard to mobilize its own army and suppress the insurrection by force. Thus, the first planetary Sidnadian war began. Despite the technological disparity due to the advanced equipment supplied by the Terran Confederacy to the Dryllarian army, the war lasted longer than expected, and it was only after several months of fighting with no clear victor in sight that the Confederacy chose to relinquish some of its less powerful nuclear warheads to Drynallard. Meanwhile, the colossal conflict unfolding at an interstellar scale continued its course. The Confederacy witnessed how the relentless harassment from terrorist organizations, the alarming progress of the Zerg invasion, and the sudden and catastrophic attacks by the Protoss increasingly threatened the security of Tarsonis itself. Fearing the worst, they decided to relocate the bulk of their forces stationed in Sidna to the already turbulent surroundings of their capital world. Only the Norad I, which was undergoing maintenance, would remain in Drynallard, guarded by a small Confederate garrison. The Norad's crew had instructions to regroup with the Confederate fleet around Tarsonis once the maintenance process was completed. However, a few days later, Tarsonis fell under the assault of numerous Zerg broods, and with that, the Terran Confederacy came to an end. Taking advantage of the unexpected event, the forces of Drynallard launched an assault on the Confederate garrison, annihilating them, and thus seized control of the Norad I battleship. This action and the events that led to it were announced to the Sidnadian population as a sudden and fortuitous change in the thinking of the rulers of Drynallard, rather than an opportunistic acquisition of Confederate technology and weaponry to maintain their planetary supremacy. They attributed the meager victory the title of "Operation Freedom" and insinuated that, thanks to it, they had achieved a definitive victory against the Confederate occupation on the planet. In the midst of their hasty retreat, the Confederate forces left a myriad of abandoned research and weapon development facilities scattered around the planet. The exact locations of most of these facilities were actually unknown to the leadership of Drynallard. In an effort to recover any secrets that might be waiting there, the polar regions of Sidna, where the majority of these facilities were presumed to be located, became the subject of an exhaustive search. However, this effort would ultimately yield little results. Nevertheless, the frustration generated was quickly appeased upon learning the news that several ships carrying Confederate survivors had managed to reach Sidna from Tarsonis, including a considerable number of highly valuable scientific personnel. It could be surmised that Dr. Gallagher knew that such a reception was not motivated by a selfless altruistic sentiment but rather by a skillful maneuver by those who governed that world in their desire to gain the support of one of the greatest minds of the now defunct Confederacy. It is known that, at least initially, these intentions were fully realized. He knew that if he wanted to ensure the survival and well-being of his people, he would now have to put his life's work in the service of his new superiors. And so he did, to the extent that his self-imposed ethical boundaries allowed him to. Horrified, Gallagher witnessed hundreds of live Zerg specimens being placed in incubation chambers for study and subsequent controlled eradication during training exercises. He was allowed to spend, as he requested, his last day of life in his laboratory. However, such actions did not have the expected repercussions or responses, as a much more concerning event for the Federation was about to take place in the planet's exosphere...
