1. 소개
1984년 7월 16일에 발표된 이 앨범의 세 번째 싱글이다. UK차트 6위, 아일랜드 2위, 네덜란드에서 4위를 기록했으나, 빌보드 싱글차트 72위를 기록하는 등 미국 시장을 놓친 첫 번째 싱글이었다. 오랜만에 프레디만의 화려한 작곡 스타일이 돌아온 노래로서 음악적 전성기였던 70년대를 연상케하는 여러 요소들 덕에 좋은 평을 받았지만 Play the Game과 지나치게 유사하다는 지적도 있다.[1] 도입부의 I don't want my freedom! 하고 강렬하게 소리치는 부분과 이후 아름답게 흘러가는 피아노 발라드가 절묘한 조화를 이룬다. 특이한 건 이 노래의 뮤직비디오인데, 프레디가 입은 의상과 헤어스타일[2]이 매우 가관이다.[3] 퀸의 드러머 로저 테일러는 이런 프레디의 모습이 마치 거대한 새우 같다고 표현하며 개인적으로 이 뮤비를 싫어한다고 밝히기도 했다. 그 이유는 자신의 모습이 너무 얼간이처럼 나왔다고. 한편 이 뮤비에는 당시 프레디와 1년여 동거하던 오스트리아 출신 독일 여배우 바바라 발렌틴도 출연했다.다만 라이브에서는 한 번 잘못 부르면 삑사리 연타가 나기 십상인 곡이었다. 컨디션이 최악이었던 84년 런던 공연들은 도입부를 삑사리로 채우기 마련이었다. 그나마 덜한 건 9월 8일 공연인데, 여기도 겨우겨우 가성을 끌어올리는 모습을 보여준다. 많은 라이브에서 도입부를 깔아부르며, 일본 Works 투어처럼 컨디션이 어느정도 받쳐주지 않는 이상 도입부를 깔아부르는 라이브는 곡의 중후반에 가서도 달라지는 게 없다.
도입부의 I don't want my freedom! There's no reason for living with a broken heart! 부분의 멜로디는, 이탈리아의 작곡가 루제로 레온카발로의 팔리아치(Pagliacci)라는 오페라에 나오는 아리아 Recitar! Vesti la Giubba의 하일라이트 부분이다. 클래식과 오페라, 발레 등에 해박했던 프레디 머큐리이기에 가능했던 오마쥬이다.
