JYP엔터테인먼트(이하 JYP) 신인 글로벌 걸그룹 VCHA가 1월 26일 첫 싱글 'Girls of the Year'(걸즈 오브 더 이어)를 발매하고 정식 데뷔한다.

VCHA(렉시, 카밀라, 켄달, 사바나, 케이지, 케일리)는 1월 26일(금) 오후 2시 데뷔 싱글 'Girls of the Year'와 동명 타이틀곡을 발표하고 모두가 기다려 온 월드와이드 루키의 등장을 알린다. 첫 싱글에는 타이틀곡 'Girls of the Year'를 비롯해 'XO Call Me'(엑스오 콜 미)까지 총 두 곡이 수록됐다.

정식 데뷔곡 'Girls of the Year'는 곡 제목처럼 '올해를 대표하는 소녀들이 되겠다'는 VCHA의 소중한 꿈, 당찬 포부, 드높은 목표를 담고 있다. 르세라핌 등과 호흡을 맞춘 마르쿠스 앤더슨(Marcus Andersson)과 세계적 걸그룹 리틀 믹스(Little Mix), 미국 팝스타 데미 로바토(Demi Lovato), 아이브 등과 작업하며 히트곡을 만든 로렌 아퀼리나(Lauren Aquilina) 그리고 트와이스, 아이유, 오마이걸 등 여러 K팝 아티스트 곡에 참여한 클로이 라티머(Chloe Latimer)까지 유수 작가진이 크레디트를 수놓았다.

신곡 뮤직비디오는 여섯 멤버가 꿈을 이루기 위해 연습실에 모여 합을 맞추며 안무 연습에 몰입하는 모습과 세계적 스타가 되어 드넓은 무대에 오르고 패션 매거진 주인공이 되는 장면이 교차 편집됐다. 이상을 현실로 바꾸는 VCHA의 열의와 열정을 보여주며 이들이 만들어갈 환한 미래를 기대케 한다.

특히 VCHA는 2월 2일(이하 현지시간)과 3일 멕시코 멕시코 시티 포로 솔, 6일과 7일 브라질 상파울루 알리안츠 파르키, 3월 16일 미국 라스베이거스 얼리전트 스타디움에서 개최되는 트와이스 다섯 번째 월드투어 일환 공연의 오프닝 무대에 올라 글로벌 반응을 높인다.

이들은 K팝 대표 기획사 JYP와 유니버설 뮤직 그룹(Universal Music Group) 산하 빌보드 선정 미국 내 NO.1 레이블 리퍼블릭 레코드(Republic Records)가 협업한 초대형 프로젝트 'A2K'(에이투케이, America2Korea)를 통해 탄생했다. 그룹명은 JYP 대표 프로듀서 박진영이 '팬들과 세상에 VCHA가 빛을 비추겠다'는 의미를 담아 직접 작명했다. 앞서 VCHA는 정식 데뷔 싱글 발매를 앞두고 2023년 9월 22일 프리 데뷔 싱글 'SeVit (NEW LIGHT)' 및 타이틀곡 'Y.O.Universe'(와이.오.유니버스)를 발매하고 'A2K' 대미를 기념했다. 'Y.O.Universe' 뮤비는 공개 다음 날 유튜브 트렌딩 월드와이드 1위, 미국 5위, 브라질 7위, 캐나다 8위 등 해외 33개 지역 순위권에 진입했다. 12월 1일 선보인 싱글 'Ready for the World'(레디 포 더 월드)는 발매 닷새 만에 글로벌 음원 스트리밍 플랫폼 스포티파이 스트림 수 20만 건을 돌파했다.

미국 그래미닷컴의 '2024년 주목해야 할 아티스트 25(25 Artists To Watch In 2024)'이자 첫 싱글 'Girls of the Year'로 미국 매거진 나일론(NYLON)의 '2024 가장 기대되는 22개 앨범'에 선정되며 뜨거운 글로벌 주목도를 입증했다. JYP 신인 걸그룹 VCHA가 정식 데뷔 싱글 'Girls of the Year'와 함께 차세대 글로벌 슈퍼스타로서 본격적 시작을 알리고 활약에 박차를 가한다.
